Mepps® Black Fury® Spinnerbait

Mepps® Black Fury® Spinnerbait

Black blades with bright dots catch a fish's eye without spooking it with too much flash. Great for clear water, overcast days, and night fishing as well as lakes and rivers with heavy fishing pressure. Blade rotates close to the body for mid-depth retrieves. Razor sharp, gold-plated treble hooks--fully dressed.

Wow, July 24, 2009
By JustinisFishing

"So far i've used the Mepps Black Fury #2 Skirted and all I can say about this lure is Wow...... If you havn't tried it yet, your missing out. Right out of the box, first cast and bam.... 2lb rainbow landed just like that.

I had one minor issue with it and that was after about the 3'rd fish the spine of the lure had bent. It was easy to bend back in place so no harm done.

Love It, March 16, 2009
By bigegan18 from Clinchport, VA

"I love these spinners from Mepps. They are easy to use and attract fish like crazy. The black fury is also an excellent choice for muddy and stained water, but they are just as good in clear water too. Definitely a great buy."

A classic..., February 7, 2009
By Luv2fishSmallWater from Columbia, Maryland

"What can I really say that most haven't already said about this lure? I too have had much success with the Mepps Black Fury. This was the first in-line spinner that I used as a kid learning this sport, and many Bluegill and Largemouth Bass were caught on them. I even caught my first Crappie on one, while bank fishing and throwing the lure parallel to a dam on Piney Run in Western, MD. I tend to have more confidence in dressed lures, so I use Mepps with the squirrel tails most often.

Over the past few years, I have used/tried other spinners that have produced well, but a few Mepps Black Fury's will ALWAYS remain in my fishing vest!

"Mepps spinner baits are well made and they really catch fish fast. I have one in all colors and the 03 seems to work the best on sunny days. I use them for largemouth bass fishing, and on almost every cast I have had a fish on the hook"

Black Fury - Recommended, August 30, 2008
By mokan from missouri ozarks

"I would recommend the Black Fury spinner to other fishermen.
One the best in-line spinners that I have used.
When in BPS, check out the sizes and colors.
Ex+ spinners, that work like money in the bank.
Very nice selection of Black Fury's.
I like the smaller sizes, and killer colors available.
Have caught many and big fish with these little spinners.

awesomeness of black fury, August 23, 2008
By tattoodfreak from sheboygan river near johnsonville wisconsin

"well one day i decided to fish the river. i had never fished it before so my father in law told me to look for a river bend i did. when i seen this lure in the store i almost put it back but i didnt i used it with in a matter of 20 min i had about a 5 or 6 pound smallmouth then about an hour later there was another fish chasing it near shore but i pulled the lure out too quick

then the other day i had two fish on in another spot and lost one the other was a baby bass nothing worth noting but this is the most action i ve had with any lure besides the aglia which i caught three carp with.

thanks mepps

They work when others don't., August 1, 2008
By sierrafishing

"The Mepp's Black Fury is my favorite spinner to use when I can't get the fish to bite on anything else. The dark blade makes this lure a great choice when blade flash might scare the fish and the tail dressing of excellent quality is an attractor that fish in clear water seem to like. They are of the highest quality and are an extremely effective lure. I highly recommend this lure."

I'm convinced, July 22, 2008
By FishinRhino from Westport, Mass.

"I hadn't wet a line in fresh water for over 35 years. I had gone from fresh to salt, chasing stripers, blues, bonita, etc. Then spent nearly 30 years as a commercial lobsterman.

I'd seen and had enough of any kind of water, regardless of size. Semi-retired, I enjoy golf, but began to get the itch to try my hand at some quiet pond fishing. No metalflake monster, 80 mph bass boats. Just me, a canoe, jon boat or something similar and the fish.

A nice, serene way to commune with Mother Nature. So today it was off to Devol Pond in Westport, MA. 40 years ago it was full of smallmouth, pickerel, crappie/calico bass and panfish.

My dad won a fishing derby with a 7 pound 14 ounce small mouth from the small pond. It is just over a half mile long, and a quarter mile across. Best of all there is no public access, but we grew up in this area and have several folks who allow us to use their access.

Back in the day, I have hauled a 36" chain pickerel, a 16 1/2 inch crappie, and several five pound bronzebacks from this pond. It has a maximum depth of 8 feet except for one small spring where it may be 10 feet deep.

The shoreline had changed dramatically since I last fished it. The west and north sides of the pond once had large beds of lilly pads, and other shores had various types of grasses protruding from the water. You could walk the perimeter of the pond.

No longer.

The once clear water was now a muddy green color with maybe three feet of visibility. The rocks in the shallow used to be clean. Not now.

So...................., not knowing what to expect, I tried what had worked in the past. A small gold rebel or rapala got no interest. The same for the once guaranteed plain Mepp number 2 with gold or silver spinners.

I've read that chartreuse is a good color in murky water. I took out a Black Fury number 3 with chartreuse polka dots and tail.

It was Katy bar the door. In the shallows, in the next hour or so, I caught over 10 largemouth bass. I had to use an unorthodox, to me anyway, retrieve, and fished it similar to a buzz bait.

I had to keep it near the surface so it wouldn't hang on a rock, or grab the underwater vegetation. I closed the bail just before the lure hit the water, and cranked it fast enough to cause a disruption on the surface. I'd slow a bit, let it settle, then speed it up until it left a wake. Occasionally, I'd jump it out of the water for a few inches.

Two of the bass were runts, about ten inches long. The rest were from a pound and a half to nearly four. In addition to the ten I caught, I lost four or five. One of them was larger than any I had lasted, and all the bass jumped repeatedly.

I lost the lure due to a poorly tied knot. I bought three more of the #3, and three #4s, for good measure.

Can't wait to get at it again.

In my profile, you'll notice is says more than five times per month. That is a conservative projection. I'm sure it will be closer to five times per week. Anyway, that's the plan.

A must have for your tackle box, July 11, 2008
By ZNickey from Baltimore, MD

"The Black Fury is one of those baits you can throw when nothing else is working and catch something. It is easy to cast, easy to use, and easy to set the hook. This is a great classic spinnerbait. The only thing I would recommend is using a good ball bearing swivel to avoid line twists."

Excellent Results, May 12, 2008
By sitruc from Mohave County, Arizona

"I have caught my fair share of trout using these spinners but where they really shine for me has been in off colored water for bass. Most of my friends who are bass only anglers wouldn't have one of these in their tackle arsenal and that has given me the edge my fishing trips. They cast well and have an excellent bass attracting action."

Works every place I have tried, March 10, 2008
By LMBAssasin from Mississippi

"I have fished these lures in NY, FL, CA, and now in south MS. They work great year round on Large Mouth Bass, Pike, Pickrel, and other game fish.
Mepps Black Fury and the Agila line are the best of the bunch.

Best Pond lure ever, March 7, 2008
By golfcoursefishing from Raleigh,nc

"This lure is the closest thing to a guaranteed catch. I fish ponds all over North Carolina and have not come across a pond that a mepps hasn't produced at least 3 bass. I recommend #3 and #4 for small to medium sized bass(.5-6 lbs) but if you find a place that has some of the big boys, tie on a #5 and hold on. I have a storage box that is nothing but Mepps in different sizes and colors."
