The lure that started it all is still one of the most popular lures around. Whether twitched on the top as a surface bait, retrieved as a shallow runner, weighted with a split-shot for medium depths or bottom walked off a sinker rig, the wounded minnow action continues to be irresistible to game fish.Model F03 - 1-1/2"; 1/16 oz; Hook size 12Model F05 - 2"; 1/16 oz; Hook size 10Model F07 - 2-3/4"; 1/8 oz; Hook size 7Model F09 - 3-1/2"; 3/16 oz; Hook size 7Model F11 - 4-3/8"; 3/16 oz; Hook size 6Model F13 - 5-1/4"; 1/4 oz; Hook size 5Model F18 - 7"; 11/16 oz; Hook size 1

Go-to Lure,July 10, 2007
By Alabamian
"This is my go-to lure. I prefer the simple silver or gold, and any length will do. Even smaller bass will hit the 5-1/4", so that helps when the bite is scarce. I've fished this lure for years and I've found that the best way to fish it is to: 1) From your boat, cast it as close to cover as possible, i.e. under overhanging trees, deep into nooks, and breaks in grass beds. 2) Snap your rod tip 2-4 times so that the lure sputters and darts underwater about 3 inches and then floats to the top (mimicking a wounded minnow). 3) Quickly reel it in and repeat. If a bass strikes and misses, quickly reel it in and toss back to exact same place.
Sidenote: I have found that if bass are gonna hit it, they'll hit it within the first 2-4 twitches. Twitching it any longer is usually a waste of time. Reeling it quickly after the 4th twitch often produces reaction strikes as bass think the lure is "fleeing". This lure is a blast to fish and almost always produces."

My Trump Card,August 25, 2006
By JeffGfrom Fairfield County, CT
"The hook on this thing practically sets itself! I prefer the jointed version over this one, but I like to keep both in my box to use as the situation dictates. I use the F07 (1/8oz) in the color 01 (Silver) and 02 (Gold) and have a lot of luck with it. I am a fast-paced (i.e. impatient) fisherman at times and like to really get this thing diving. On the way back up, if you give it enough room, it'll catch you bass, panfish, and I even got a smaller sized muskie on it once. Like I said before, the hookset is fantastic. I recommend it a lot, but (again) personally prefer the action on the jointed version. Give both a shot and see which one does it for you!"

Catch a lot of fish,October 29, 2009
By dentfrom Kentucky
Advantages: Performs well, Quality, Style/Design, Value for money
"I have the 01 and 02 colors in a couple of different sizes. I was out this week and when nothing else was working I was able to catch some bass on the gold one. They catch bluegill very well and a lot of small large mouths but not any that are worth bragging about. Mostly just 10"-12" that have to be thrown back. Maybe that's why they work so well for bluegills. That's the only reason I gave it a 4 out of 5. Like all Rapalas...they look amazing!!"

"I just started using hardbaits a couple years ago after using spinnerbaits. This lure has never failed me. I use the perch shade of the 5 1/4". The bass in the farm ponds and lakes i fish at love this thing. The best luck i have with this lure is to cast it out around fallen trees or stumps, jerk it a few times and reel it back fast. However i have caught many fish in open water using this tactic also. Great action, great lure."

Great bait,August 22, 2009
By Stoofrom MA

"This bait works great around wood. You can't fish this bait wrong. The only problem is that it is relatively light, thus making it harder to cast. All around great lure."

Grade A Bass Lure,July 23, 2009
By Clarkirfrom Clark County, Indiana
Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Value for money
"Simply put this is from my experience the best top water bait on the market.
Ive never gotten more reaction strikes out of a bait than I have with this one. No matter how bad the cast, it still hits the water vitrually perfect. The best advice I could give is WAIT FOR THE RIPPLES. I cant tell you how often Ive gotten hit before even reeling this guy in. I can say with all honesty Ive caught more bass PRIOR to any retrieve, than once Ive started moving the bait. What more do you want out of a lure?!
I cast it out, let the ripples die, twitch a few times (soft to have "dribble" at the surface, hard to get it to sink further down and pop up) ... Retrieve the slack. Then I twitch it in kinda like walking the dog but in more of a dribbling off the surface than side to side motions. Might throw in a long retrieve in the middle and watch a bass come after it like a train to prevent it from running away.
IF YOU DONT HAVE THIS BAIT THEN YOU WILL NOT CATCH EVERY FISH POSSIBLE"

Productive,July 14, 2009
By kaykerfrom Brookline,Ma.
Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Style/Design, Value for money
"This is the 1st lure I recall catching a bass on. I have been fishing over 40 years but in my youth it was worms only. I still remember that fish. I was in a small row boat on the Charles River I cast to an inlet and as soon as the lure hit the water it was smashed. I never forgot the excitement of the top water hit. This lure is productive for all fishermen and women. Fish it slow , fish it fast, my favorite is stop and go. You can't go wrong with this lure."

"I am 47 years old. I have had used rapala minnows since I was a kid. I have caught more different species of fish on this minnow than an other lure in my tackle box. If I were asked what my favorite lure would be of all time it would be the blue back rapala minnow. They simple catch fish. and stayed original all these years that speaks for itself. I not sure if it is but this lure should be in the fishing hall of fame as the number 1 lure of all time. I dont know to many fishermen that has not used this specific minnow. Or to many that dont have at least one in there tackle box."

BEST LURE EVER CREATED!!!,May 23, 2009
By Jeffreyfishfrom Acton, MA
Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Style/Design, Value for money, awsome
"The Rapala Original Floating Minnow is the best lure ever created! LITERALY! Here's how I get the most out of this lure:
1) Once you've casted this thing out, begin to reel the lure in IMMEDIATELY! reel it in at a moderate-fast speed.
2) Next, jerk your rod tip every half-second to a whole second so the minnow goes crazy. don't overdo this part. I repeat, DO NOT OVERDO THIS PART!!!
3) continue this process, varying the time between jerks.
If you follow these instructions, you'll have a lunker in no time!(you can also add a split shot to the line if necessary)."
