Hornady 30-06 165Gr SST LM,
October 3, 2009
By dpm350
from Allen, TX
|
Advantages: Performs well
"I switched to the Hornady light magnum load a few years ago when looking for a good elk load for my Winchester Model 70 30-06. I was a little leery about going to a light mag load but have not regretted it. The 165 grain SST is a great round with excellent ballistics and knock down power. My rifle is sighted in a 200 yards and I normally don’t like to take a shot over that but on one occasion dropped a large cow elk in her tracks at roughly 500 yards. For deer hunting I drop back down to standard loads. Be sure to compensate or re-sight your rifle since the light mag load shoots a little high and to the side compared with standard loads. Also the manufacture warns against using light mags in semi-automatic or gas operated firearms."

Excellent ammo,

Advantages: Performs well, Quality
Disadvantages: would like it with a barnes tripple shok
"Switched to Lt magnums for my 270 a few years ago. Tighter groups and hits harder @ 200 yd than my previous preferred cartridge. Though using a smaller caliber on big game I get one shot kills consistenly. This speaks well fot the accuracy and power of this bullet."

Advantages: Performs well, Quality, can order at the local brasspro
Disadvantages: not available online
"I can get the .270 light magnum ordered at my local Basspro, but not here online??
The .270 light magnum is a great round, best round I have shot in my rifle. It does kick like a mule though. It has been the most consistant ammo I have come across."

Great ammo.,

"I purchased the LM 139gr SST for my 7mm-08. It shoots 1 to 1 1/4 inch groups at 100 yard out of my model seven from a bench. I have taken 3 deer with them and haven't had one to run yet. Great expansion and complete penetration."

Tighten your groups!,

"This ammo shoots half inch groups at 100 yards out of my .308. It shoots alot tighter than cheap ammo and the SST bullet has good expansion. Just don't hit any of the good meat with it!"

Great Ammo,
September 7, 2008
By basshound
from Charleston, South Carolina
|
"This is great ammo, I recently started using the 165 gr. in 308 Win. through my Browning A-Bolt. Tight groups from the bench, recoil is not noticeably more than from what I used to shoot (150 gr. Federal Fusion) and it shoots flatter/higher velocity. The only reason I do not give 5 stars is the price, but ANY ammo is getting rediculously expensive these days."

ACCURATE,

By Shadowgrass3

"I shoot the 139-gr. SST-Moly in my 7mm mag. A-bolt. With the rifle in a gun vise, the Hornady's will shoot a five-shot group into one ragged hole at 100 yards. That is no exaggeration, and the SST bullet is a flat-out deer slayer."

EXCELLENT!!!!,
January 16, 2008
By 3sonshunting

"This round is amazing. I shoot a Rem. 700 in 30-06. The 165gr. sst is very accurate. Sighted in at 1.5inches high @100 yrds. and it is dead on at 200(1.25" group). Knockdown is extreme, shot a doe at 80yrds., went in like a dime came out like a cash register!! This is the only round I will ever use.Cant wait to try ou the new Revolution for my 44Mag pistol. Thanks Hornady!!"

Simply the best money can buy!!,
January 13, 2008
By Mohunter
from Missouri
|
"I started using Hornady Light Magnum ammo in my .270 Remington BDL about 4yrs. ago. It is ALL I will ever use again. The first year I made the switch I was astounded by the 400yrd. plus accuracy. I took a large doe at around 425yrd. and didn't have to compensate for bullet drop! She never took one step. The one shot kill at that range made a believer out of me. My brother did the same on a nice 10pt. at about the same distance. Now he won't use anything else."

Awesome Perfomance,
December 4, 2007
By 3006Shooter
from Clio, Mi.

"I purchased these shells on a reccomendation from a representative from "Shephard Scopes". It seemed that I mismatched my scope with my gun. But these shells gave me the velosity and trajetory required for the range finding ability of my scope. In return I made a 420 yd.(range finder) kill on a mule deer in Wy. I can't say enough good about this product, well worth the money."

308 DREAM,
October 30, 2007
By SHEMUEL
from North Carolina

"I recently used the 308 interlocks in light mag. They shot dead on at 200 yards in my TC ENCORE. On a recent deer hunt i dropped 2 NC bucks in their tracks in a matter of 30 minute interval. The second one was at 150 yards free hand in a swamp bottom and the buck folded up. Great ammo. I have been using Hornady for over 25 years in 6mm,243,and 308. I use nothing else."

The Motherload of Rifle Ammo,
October 29, 2007
By Deerslayer
from East Tennessee
|
"Hornady Light Magnums make all those Federal Vital-shok and Remington Cor-Lokt look like the cheaply made factory loads that they are. No cartridge on the market outperforms the Light Magnum! Flatter shooting, better knockdown power, and higher velocities. I use the 117 gr. 25-06, and it makes it look like a 30-06 when you see the exit wound on a deer! Pay the extra $10 and buy something that is actually capable of humanely harvesting a big game animal!"
