Reasonably practical, for the price

Advantages: Ease of use, Value for money, Well made/Durable
"Recently returned from lengthy overland trip through Argentine northwestern provinces. I put this 4-in-1 gadget to the test. Sure, I have a nickle-plated police whistle, a quality, glass magnifying glass and a professional compass, but in terms of having all of those (plus the bi-scale thermometer) in one easy-to-use, lightweight, carriable item that admirably stands up to use and abuse, I discovered that I indeed had made a sound purchase.
My only two, small complaints are that, first, the plastic on both the thermometer and the compass are easily scuffed and scratched, but then I rather expected that and accept it. Second, unless you've got long fingernails, or a similar pointed object, it's rather hard to extract the magnifying lens.
Still in all well worth the price !!"

"Always good to have one of these and you can always spend more and get the best of both worlds. This fits the bill to keep in your pack or to have in your vehicle for emergencies. Get a few for christmas presents. Think of your friends and relatives even if they don't think of themselvs."

More of a toy than a tool

Disadvantages: Quality, too small and cheap to offer proper functionality
"My principal interest was in buying a loud, durable whistle for safety and bear alerts on a forthcoming trip to SE Alaska. The strongly positive reviews on BassPro's catalog page for this multi-product prompted me to buy the 4-in-1 instead at more or less the same price. The whistle is fairly loud, but not as loud as larger, dedicated whistles. The other features function OK but I think that the other three features things for kids to fool around with on the boat/ on the trail than anything else."

"whistle is loud enough to be heard over a out board Motor. Compass works great in helping you find your way out of very thick wood lands. So glad I bought it. Haven't need the magnifier yet but I am sure it will come in handy. The 2-scale thermometer works great when I need to know how hot it actually was out side."

All the tools surprisingly work as they should

"I found this whistle a very useful tool for my survival, hiking, or camping backpacks. At first looks good quality and all the tools surprisingly work as they should. Its noise can be heard from a considerable distance. I bought it since I needed a very small compass as a backup when geocaching and its accuracy impressed me. My only suggestion is to change the keychain for a nice carabiner."

4-1 tool Great Value for Price!

"4 Tools in 1:
1) Compass
2) Whistle
3) Thermometer
4) Magnifying Glass
This is a really good item for its cost of $2.97. I am not sure if it's the compass or the whistle that makes this tool great, but it has them both. The basic idea in survival, IF there will be a rescue, is STAY PUT. So you don't need a compass, but I am the kind of person that doesn't go out into the field without a compass. It is the basic directional finding equipment. This compass, although inexpensive, is dutifully accurate if you need it.
The whistle is a core signaling device. Next to the signal mirror, the whistle takes the least amount of energy to use and can be heard at great distances. Ask any rescue services person what is the most important signaling device for a person to carry and you will get the whistle.
In addition to the compass and the whistle, this handy little device also includes a thermometer and a magnifying glass. I like having the thermometer available, just because I like to know the temperature outside. The magnifying glass is good for finding splinters in your finger, but I don't have a lot of other uses for it. I, personally, have never been able to start a fire with one and I don't think this particular one is good enough for that anyway, but it comes free with the other stuff.
Good tool - buy it!
