Bass Pro Shops Bass Pro Shops® Hook Guard for Weedless Lures

Patented design allows you to make your favorite lures weedless in a matter of seconds. The Hook Guard pushes onto the hook and over the keeper allowing you to put your plastic or live bait on behind it. The hook point then embeds into the end of the Hook Guard.

"we use these guards for crappie fishing. i have tried every kind of weedless jig out there. these have been the best ever .we fish very tight brush and have very few break offs. they are very tough. i have caught several crappie at a time before i have to change it out to a new one. coupled with a bobby garland baby shad i usually go through 2 baby shads to one stick guard."

Order the Large

,
August 9, 2011
By Ikee
from VA
Advantages: it works.
"This is a useful product. Whatever length you think you need, order the LARGE. I ordered MEDIUM, received a packet marked MEDIUM but containing hook guards that were the size specified for the SMALL -- 7/8 inch. BPS was very courteous to replace them, but the ones in the second package, also marked MEDIUM, were also only 7/8 in. long. Then I asked them to ship LARGE, I could not make the "too short" ones longer, I can cut off the "too long" ones to fit. The ones in the packet marked LARGE were in fact 1 5/8 in., as the catalog specifies."

"Before using stickguards I lost a lot of jigs. I spent a lot of time tying on a new jig. With the stickguard you can worm your jig through heavy brush."

"I never crappie fish without these! I can put a crappie jig into places that I would never even attempt with an exposed hook. When the collar breaks off I simple stick the plastic over the hook and keep using them."

"I have had a lot less snags from weeds using these little stickguards. They are easy to apply and so far have stayed on well. I don't think I have missed any strikes because of them, either."

"Absolutley necessary when fishing thick brushy crappie haunts..You can stick you jig in the thickest of underwater jungles and get your jig back or pull a big ol crappie out of his comfort zone..I use the larger one for bass too. This was my secret for along time.."

Works like a charm

"Dis-regard the diagram on the package. The picture in the ad is wrong. Use the hook to pierce a hole thru the flattened end where the dimple is. Push the hook thu far enough past the barb of the hook to get your line under it and pull it back so the guard is threaded on your line. Tie on the jig then slide the guard down the line over the eye and slip the other end over the barb of the hook so its in a straight line. I've done very well with these. The large size is effective on large buzz baits. Just keep in mind a straight line from the barb to the top of the hook. I also fish a single hook live nightcrawler rig with just enough weight to get past the bluegills. I use this with a Spirex 1000 spinning reel and 6lb fire line( 4lb is difficult for me to see) leave the reel open let them run about 6 feet lock it up set the hook. If after about 30 seconds no strike pull with the rod about 4 to 6ft retrive at a time. Just keep opening the bail. A small amount of air injected in the tail end of the nightcrawler helps too-Good Luck"
