Ad-hoc King setup, November 4, 2006
By CarolinaChuck from Charlotte, North Carolina

"Fishes like a $500 TOL reel. Silky smooth drag. Purchased for a balloon rig to be used on pier; easily accommodates 1500 yards of 20lb braid. Hooked 150lb Black-tip shark; ran off 300 yards and I locked him down. Fish proceeded to strip off line, and the drag was just as smooth as it was in the strike position.
If you have never owned a lever drag reel, try this one; but be fore-warned, you'll sell every star drag reel you own. Dollar for dollar, this is by far the best 4/0 reel I have owned.

Fish smart, fish safe, and fish some more!

Advantages: Performs well, Quality, Style/Design

"The Shimano TLD 15 reel was flawless on my trip over the weekend. It amazed me. I didn't think it had the power that it did. I'm about to buy some bigger models for Grouper. Check out this product if you are considering any bottom fishing."

"I purchased 4 TLD20s and put them on penn mariner standups for trolling... smooth drag from start to finish... caught an 80+lb stripe marlin on one of them.... regularly catch 40+ # dodo's and tuna.... Yes they grow that big in the Sea of Cortez - down near Mulege... fantastic reels!!! I'm looking to round out my bait casting arsenal with a couple of TLD15s this summer... I'll put those on the Kingfish rods..."

"I GIVE THIS REEL 5 STARS 1ST. BECAUSE IT'S A SHIMANO AND I LOVE THERE PRODUCTS. I BOUGHT A TLD25 BECAUSE MY BUDDY HAVE ONE. I SPOOLED IT WITH 80LB. POWER PRO AND IT FEEL LIKE I CAN PULL UP A SHIP WRECK ALONG WITH THE BIG BOY MUTTONS."

TLD20, March 4, 2008
By EddieT from Huntington Beach, CA

"I purchased the TLD20 a while back to be used for trolling for yellowtail/tuna as well as for fishing for shark.
Reel works like a dream... I have 500 yds of 65 lb spectra loaded with another 150 yds of mono topshot. Drags are ultra smooth. Very little flex is noticed even though the reel is graphite - I've heard no issues of the reel breaking like the TLDII reels (although I understand the newer "A" versions don't have this problem).

Great Reel, July 28, 2007
By Full O'Tuna from Oklahoma

"This reel just became my favorite reel. It is built solid, it is easy to use, and just has the feel of quality. The drag is flawless and silky smooth when you're hooked up to fish that is running, and the retrieve is faultless. I'm not easily impressed, but the TLD 20 is a GREAT reel and I would heartily recommend it to anyone.

I wish I had discovered it earlier, I have several lesser reels that are up for sale and will be replaced with TLD 20 and TLD 25 reels.

By tangledup from BERTIE COUNTY, NC

"I USE THE TLD-25 FOR ALL OF MY OFFSHORE FISHING. TUNA, DOLPHIN, WAHOO, SAILFISH, MARLIN, YOU GET THE PICTURE. SMOOTH REEL WITH GREAT GEAR RATIO AND THEY ARE A LOT LIGHTER IN WEIGHT THAN MY PENN 6/0 REELS"

Best Darn Reel I've owned, July 12, 2006
By FishTaleslV from Great Sacandaga Lake, NY

"Recieved the Shimano TLD 20 for Christmas last year. Have since used it extensively on "head boats" for cod and haddock also grouper down south. It is smooth, the drag is so much better than the old star drags I've had. Lightwieght yet feels solid in the hand. I mounted this reel on an Ande 6' boat rod medium heavy action and the two are a perfect tool for offshore bottom fishing. I can't wait to see how it works trolling this winter in Key West.

Would recomend this reel to anyone who's on a budget but needs a solid performer.
