Just reel an Arbogast Jitterbug in and let it wag back and forth with a deep, gurgling rhythm that bass can't ignore. The bigger lunkers often follow the Jitterbug for half a retrieve until they can't resist it anymore and attack.

"If I had to pick one lure to night fish for bass with, it would be the Jitterbug. This plug emits a steady plopping sound that is easy for bass to detect at night. I have caught several 6-pound plus bass on these lures & I never leave home without them. Use the weeldess model in heavy slop for some sure-enough heart-pounding topwater strikes! Be sure to spool up with heavy, abrasion-resistant line, because you'll catch some certified lunkers on this plug."

"This Lure is one of my top 3 favorite topwater lures. The great thing about this is you can use it in the dark. I t has so much action on the surface that the fish strike it in the dark. This plug has been around around for years and have been a fisherman's go to lure. It is one of those that you just seem to always catch fish on. The bill on this is absolutely amazing. I love these so much, that i got one up in a tree and i got ticked. So i climbed the tree and cut off the limb where the jitterbug was. I made sure i got it back. So always have a few of these in your tackle box"

Disadvantages: Performance, ineffective, scared fish instead of catching them
"Honestly, the only reason I still keep this lure in my tackle box is so that I have something to use out of desperation...I have never even gotten a look from a bass with this lure. Even when bass were hammering a popper I used with my fly rod, I took this thing and cast it out, and the plopping sound it made on the retrieve that everyone says is money was SCARING THE BASS AWAY. I used different retrieves and a couple of different colors and sizes and nothing worked. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but until I figure that out I will not waste time fishing this lure."

"There is nothing that compares to throwing the classic jitterbug and watching the big bass nail it. I have more faith in this lure than nearly any other lure. It is by far my favorite lure I have ever had. Whenever I start fishing with a friend, he will go out and buy one the very next day, because he realizes how great it is. It is a must-have in black, in either size (though I prefer the larger one). In addition to many large bass, I have caught a couple of gators with the jbug. They couldn't resist it. (don't worry, the gators didn't attack out of nowhere, I saw them and intentionally got their hungry attention with the lure). Many people call this the greatest night fishing lure ever-it is. It is also however, a fantastic day fishing lure. Don't go fishing without one of these in your tackle box."

"This is the best topwater lure you can ever buy!! I use it in choke canyon and it caches the fish. The only thing that I don't like is that it it is pricey but that doesn't mean don't buy it. It works best very early or very late. I work it slow so it leaves a steady bubble trail."

"This isn't my first time purchasing this jitterbug. My wife loves throwing it, and has been fairly successful with it. However, this was a necessary purchase because she lost the last one, along with a nice bass, because the eyelet where the line ties on isn't crimped together enough, and the line came through the gap. She reeled in the knot that was tied to the eyelet. She has other versions of the jitterbug, and has been careful to re-crimp them before she uses them, or sometimes fills the gap with superglue (which doesn't last forever). But she is a faithful jitterbug user, especially this one!"

"I find the action on this lure great. It just works the top of the water perfectly. The hooks are sharp too which is a bonus and results in more hookups for the angler. It's light but can be cast from both shore and boat. I've found it works better from shore because it works well at night where the bass are in the summer feeding on baitfish. Overall I like this topwater lure."

"I bought 3 of these jitterbugs 2 of what I would say are standard size, and one smaller 2inch. I am so glad I took the chance and went with the 2inch, within casts I have taken in multiple fish and am definately going to be buying a few colored versions of the 2inch. (I was also against buying a 5+ dollar lure but this was worth it)."

"I was using this lure today while fishing on the black river in ny and i had my doubts about it, mainly because its a "nighttime" lure and should only be used on "lakes" or "ponds" but i ignored what others said and went up to the store and got one....well first cast caught a 14'' smallmouth and after that i was landing bass all day from about noon till 6 p.m. the way i was fishing was shorefishing and by reeling in for about ten seconds and stop for about three and kept that going and it was a very productive way"
