Ugly Stik Lite, April 20, 2006
By Wild Man from New Jersey

"I have used the 7Ft. medium action ugly stik lite on just about everything inshore, to include Flounder, white Perch, Weakfish, Stripers, and the occasional largemouth. This rod has a great feel, is very sensitive, has good hook setting power and is an overall joy to use. I love the cork grips which mate nicely to your hands. I have tossed lures with it and bottom fished with it as well. I have occasionally taken it out on charter boats for Flounder when I go out with friends, and I always catch more fish most of the people on the boat. I attribute this to the rod, because it is very sensitive. I have rods that cost three times the price but this is still my favorite, after four years of use."

"I have this rod in the 6' M model and it has a lot of backbone for tossing lures a mile. the one i have was a gift from five years ago when i was ten. i still use the same one today and cant belive that the thing hasent broken from the hundred times that i banged it in the boat or droped it when i was waiding. These things are made tough."

Best Rod on the Market, July 31, 2009
By mxfisher

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Style/Design, Value for money

"I've had a 7 foot Ugly Stik for over 20 years now, and it still fishes like new. I wanted one a little shorter, so I recently purchased the 6 foot medium Ugly Stik Light spinning rod. You can tell just from holding it, it still has the same quality as the originals. These are the best rods on the market!! Get one!!!!"

"This one of the best rods I have used. I teamed this rod up with a Wally Marshall Pro Spinning Reel. I got it because I needed a rod that would last. It is so sensitive to the smallest bites."

"This is the best rod for the price on the market. I've had more expensive rod that have broken on me, some during tourney's, but I have never broken a ugly stik fishing. Ultra sensative and lite, you can feel the slightest nibble. This is the only rods I use from now on. Period!!"

Only minor complaints, June 19, 2009
By Jerkbaitdude from Southeastern New England

Advantages: Value for money, Durability
Disadvantages: eye size diameter should be more gradual

"I love the 7' Med...very sensitive, of course durable and I like the way the flexible tip quickly finds some back bone in the rod so you can set the hook.

So it's basically strong, yet still able to cast some smaller baits.

However, my only grip is that the EYES on this 7footer could be alittle more gradual as they start to narrow up the rod. I mean, the top half of the rod is almost ALL ITTY BITTY Eyes like a Bait casting rod. The Eye size diameter should get gradually BIGGER as you go down from Tip to Reel.

I love to use a 40 series type spinning reel (ie. can hold 12lb test) in order to maximize cast distance and also increase line retrieve... the spool is wide enough so that the line flys off easily. Anyway, I loose some cast control and distance because of the eye sizes. The 1st eye is big and then the rest are TOO small TOO soon...it kinda affects how quickly the line flies up the rod.

Other than that, i'll put up with it cause I love the rod.

I also wish it came in a 7' ONE PIECE.

"I have always had an ugly stick with me since I was a kid, I broke a crappie rod, and took out a 7'0 M Ugly stick lite with a president spinning reel and 10lb test spiderwire invisbraid, a bass setup, and caught the crappies with ease, then went back to bass fishing, then to cats, and this rod has not let me down at all, it is simply amazing, my first ugly stick I bought a loooooong time ago, and I'm still using it today, they are insanly strong, and I would tell anyone to get one."

This 28.5" Channel One of many cats caught with the 6'6" M Ulgy Stick Lite.
User submitted photo
"I bought a 6'6"M Ugly Sick Lite for my wife three years ago. Over the last three years it has landed hundreds of fish. I have read other reviews on this product where people say the rod broke landing two or three pound fish, in any case like that the rod must have been damaged prior to use. This rod has proven it's exceptional strength to me by landing lots of channel cats, I've pulled cats over 10 pounds through the weeds with no problem and that's a medium action rod. The rod works so well for cats I prefer it to any other rod I've used. This rod has also laned tons of bass and northerns .It is an ok bass rod too, but it has a moderate to slow action. My wife like this rod for bass over Fenwicks and other more expensive rods. Great for the price."

Terrible line guides!!!, January 28, 2009
By monstercatcher from Southeastern PA

"I have been using a 7ft medium for about a year. The things i love about this rod is its strenghth, surprising sensitivity considering it is paritially made of fiberglass, and just the overall design quality for the price. However, all that is worthless since the guides are the worst and the line will cut them. I used #8 monofilament line on this rod. There is a very good reason that the more expensive rods don't have stailness steel guides. Even though it is steel, it is just not hard enough to make good line guite inserts."

22.5" walley:)

"I have had the 6'6" medium USL for a couple years now. Man is it versitile. I feel the lightest bites with it. Yet its got enough backbone to work my 9" suicks with no problems. I have hauled in everything from yellow perch, to large and small mouths, Huge pike, and even big ol' beefy late fall muskies. Paired with a Quantum Energy PTI-30, I can use any kind of bait, soft, crank, jerk. It dont matter. the only problem I've had is with the front handle cracking from snagging it in the rocks under a dam. Other than that it is the bestrod with a great balance to it. And for the price you cant beat it."
