Terrible, really!!! Do not buy, October 15, 2009
By lovingcrankbait from California

Disadvantages: Durability

"What can I tell you, it's just a terrible product. The idea is good, to change lure quickly. I bought a bunch of regular size clips and they are small, light weight. The magnum size ones are too big, and they affect the actions of top water lures. At first they are good, I could change lure quickly and be back at casting and fishing again. Over time though they started to fail, the metal of the clip gets softer, and the gap started to open up. You can get probably 15 casts out of them before they open up, causing you to loose lures. At this point any regular snap and swivel will work better.
Product grade: F for fail. Thanks for reading.

Lose Too Many Lures, October 8, 2009
By Anonymous from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Advantages: Ease of use
Disadvantages: Performance, lose too many lures

"I love the idea of these clips, and they are well engineered, however, I found I lost too many lures and threw mine away.

To give some credit, I lost mine while doing top water walking the dog or using jerk baits. I believe the slack-tension-slack action causes the loses. I suspect they would be better if using straight forward, steady retrieves or trolls

work great, September 22, 2009
By richk from Il.

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Style/Design, Value for money

"I've started using the speed clips for everything, just remember to retie once in awhile like you would if tying direct, they don't prevent line nicks. They also work great on spinnerbaits IF you use a wire tie like the one on a loaf of bread, and wrap it around 1 wire on the spinnerbait, cross over to the other wire and wrap it around a few times and cut off the excess. You don't have to wrap it tight,it can't slide down the wires and you've just created an enclosed area like on a lure to put the speed clip in and it can't slide out of the U anymore."

Best Purchase Ever, September 7, 2009
By cfoatl from Mesa, AZ

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Value for money

"I had got the speed clips cuz i decided to give it a try. It worked out pritty good on fast lure change out but when i tryed to use a pre strung hook it got all tangled and it was kind of dumb i thought it would be the same as a suivel but oh well it still is the best thing for bass fishing or lure fishing."

best speed clip around, August 10, 2009
By firecracker from Picayune, MS

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Style/Design, Value for money

"I have used these clips for years and have found them to be very reliable and easy to use. I am pleased that Bass Pro has them. I receintly showed them to some people that had never seen them. We were on a fishing trip and they were amazed at the short time it took me to put on different lures. I gave them one to use and they are now looking for some for their tackel boxes."

Why I don't lose lures, April 22, 2009
By RalphJ

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Style/Design
Disadvantages: you must pay attention.

"This product is the smallest, lightest, and probably strongest mechanical tie-on on the market outside of using a split-ring.

The clips allow me to carry only one pole because I can switch lures/leaders/weights in seconds (like a typical swivel clip) without adding a lot of bad visual cues (like a typical swivel clip). I still use two poles, but only because I want to!

By getting rid of the swivel, I give up whatever line untwisting benefits it gave me. I don't miss them.

I can remove all the split-rings off my hard lures, making lipped cranks run better (less turbulence on the lip) and giving all hard baits a slightly better feel though the line because the gap in the center of the snap ring is no in the line.

The small clips are small enough to embed in the head of most soft baits (including woms), giving the lure the optimal action (like I tied it on) without the turnoff of an unnatural swivel.

Yes, you can lose lures. But that can happen with any connection, mechanical or tie-on, if you don't pay attention. You need to eyeball your connection (especially a small one) after retrieving or unhooking to make sure it hasn't opened up, and this connection is no different. The lure doesn't flop side to side independent of the clip when it's working loose (the eye is stuck between the clip bends). So you reach up and make the correction.

The clip strength is much better than a slip or snap clip. The overlapping loops flex without snapping, and reinforce each other, making the clip more than twice as strong as a standard swivel clip. I can break a 20# leader or line before I can bend out this clip. My heavy saltwater swivel clips will deform and pull out before that happens.

I have stopped opening the clip by pinching-it's tough that way. I hold the clip and push the eye down against the end of the loop and slide it on and around. I've had no real problems doing this.

Try them for yourself. I think you will stop buying swivel clips.

no more, April 17, 2009
By kcalv2 from Missouri

Advantages: Ease of use
Disadvantages: Performance

"I thought these clips were the cat's meow at first; however, a lure can work itself off this ring after repeated long casts. I lost three lures over a period of time on the cast. No more speed clips for me."

Nice accessory, March 24, 2009
By JEMCG from Florida

"These little clips are very handy and work well. One issue is that they can be tough for someone with weak fingers to open properly. Some lures with thicker attachment loops can be a challenge to attach since the clip may not open wide enough. For most bass lures this is not a major issue. All in all this is an item I do use and it has a place in my gear."

they still work for me~, January 16, 2009
By pattychan from Lake Elsinore, CA

"I bought both types of the speed clips and I think they work pretty well.
I have only the use of one hand which make the small ones a bit tricky to pinch to open the ring with my bare fingers, but if you tied it on... just pull to make tension and squeeze. Or sometimes i just force/slide the eye of my lure right in the middle of the ring instead, (i don't think it's recommended?), like how you'd put your house key on those rings, which seems to be faster for me & it still works just fine.
Using needle nose pliers can warp/misshape it after many uses and if it slips while pinching down with the pliers too forcefully.

Yet still, I haven't lost any lure's(with/without fish on), or broken my line at all. I use them for freshwater bank/shore fishing & saltwater pier fishing.
With the larger speed clips... I only use those as weight clips for rigs & such. I've modified some and added a swivel on both types because sometimes(not often) my lined would get twisted up after I retrieved.
Overall i like'em a lot, saves me A LOT of time, line, & energy when switching with all kinds of lures/baits & rigs. They're sturdy, hasn't rusted, & you can get creative with them if you're a low budget angler like myself.

Great solution!, October 14, 2008
By Knuckles from Eugene, Oregon

"I fish bass from a kayak. I cannot have 5 or 6 rods baited up with various lures to throw at every spot. I'm limited to 2 rods and to make up for the limitations I use these speed clips.
They work just like a bass clip for a chankbait, but allow a more secure swivel-like attachment. I use one on the end of my casting rod and can quickly switch between a top water, a crankbait and a spinner when I am prospecting.
My fish count has gotten higher and my knot tying has gotten slower since I switched to these. Give them a try, you won't be dissapointed.

Great for Crankbaits, October 14, 2007
By Bassman714 from Santa Ana, CA

"I purchased a pack of these about a year ago while trying out different "quick change" solutions. I have to say that these have been the best ones yet. I stick with the smaller ones mostly as I believe larger ones mess with the action of my crankbaits. They are also very tough, and have easily handled 15lb plus fish."

lures come off, January 22, 2007
By flukester

"I used this product a lot on my crankbaits for the quick change concept, but if the fish or snag twists just right you can kiss your lure bye bye! First time it happened I thought it was a fluke, then it happened a few more times, got nothing back but the clip!!! gone to using the cross-lok snap!"

best snap out there, November 6, 2006
By LesterC from houston, texas

"if you are going to use snaps, the norman speed clip is the one to use. these tend to be stronger than all the other snaps out there. changing lures is quick and easier on the hands with these than others. I have had good fish straighten out other snaps, but never a speed clip. I bagged a 20 lb blue cat on a crankbait attached with a speed clip. With more traditional snaps i have lost the whole lure when a big fish has hit at my feet. It is still better to tie directly to the lure, but if you must use snaps, and sometimes i must, then use these and pitch the others. Best for crankbaits, bad for spinnerbaits. Spinnerbaits tend to work their way out of the clip."
