Amazing !,

"Another product I have been using since its inception.
When I seen it advertised in the BPS circular I thought this could be novel. But I had no idea the actual effect it would have on my fishing overall.
The installation is so easy a child could do it....in fact I was when this first came out. I bought it when I was 14 years old & I am 28 currently, & I still have & use that original balance kit on my rod. Unless you do much fending off of wild animals with your rod butt, then you wont need to replace this at all.
Now to extoll the virtues of this kit.
Once installed to your balance specification you can see the immediate balancing effect which makes your rod seem weightless.
Having your rod perfectly balanced allows you to literally hold your rod & reel resting on a single finger near the reel, with the rod perfectly balancing straight. Of course this is not a new fishing technique that is going to catch on anytime soon, but it is a testament to how light it makes your equipment "seem" which leads to a feeling of effortless fishing even after going all day.
The true selling points are unable to be put into words, you just have to try it for yourself. You wont fish with a rod without it ever again.
As far as it falling apart during the rain, I can attest that is not true. Not only do I fish in the rain, but I dip my rod butt & reel into the water each time I go fishing for lubrication & perhaps a little superstition."

Good system,

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Style/Design
Disadvantages: Durability
"A few years ago I broke a couple handles using this weight system. Yet, other handles did not break. Quality control can be a probIem with Bass Pro selling so many rods. They honored the warranty and replaced the broken rods. I chose to wrap the lower part of the handle and weight system with a little quality Duct tape. It seemed to give the system a little more strenght. I haven't had a break off since. I like the weight system. If you fish a lot, the balance makes a difference. And if you fish a lot, sometimes things break."

"I've used many of the XPS Weight Kits and when they work they are awesome but I've had some problems with there QUALITY. Some of the weight kits seem to be flawed in 2 different ways. Most of the weight kits fell apart after only a few months of use. The foam degrades and seperates from the plastic butt cap. I've also purchased 3 weight kits that wouldn't stay tight and would come loose after 15 to 20 casts. A little Lock-Tite solves this problem. This is a quality control issue. A good design but poor QUALITY."

"I have used these balance kits for 5 years and they do work but if you ever fish in the rain. Water will get in them and rot the cork and you will not know it until it is too late. I have two rods like that"

Do Not Fish Without These,
September 16, 2008
By IRISHPETE

"Truly the best rod accessory a fisherman could have. Fishing without these on you BPS rods is like fishing without hooks. A balanced rod and reel eliminates arm fatigue and makes a day of fishing even more enjoyable than it already is. You will be glad you spent the money on these."

"Put these on all my Johnny Morris combos, and it has GREATLY reduced forearm fatigue, and numbness in my hand. I can fish for longer, and with better accuracy, and distance on my casts. At $10 per rod I think it's well worth the investment. Greatly increases sensitivity as well. Couldn't be happier with this product. I just wish that the 2008 Johnny Morris Elite baitcast combos were made to accept these. Highly recommend these weights."

Great adjustment!,
April 29, 2008

"These weights definitely help with dialing in the rod balance. I used a bit of masking tape to hold the weights while selecting the right values. One of the previous reviewers had issues with getting the weights out, and this helped with that issue.
My 6'6" M Bionic Blade spinning rod with a Shimano Solstace 2000 reel required 2.2 ounces. I held my pinky where the reel meets the rod to check balance. The combo feels awesome!"

XPS Balance System,

"I am 13 years old and am a future Bass Pro. I own a couple XPS Rods and this is simply a must have for them. It probably gave me 20 more feet on my cast and makes the rod feel immaculate in my hands. Really a home run product from Bass Pro."

Adds sensitivity without fatigue,
April 4, 2008
By Anonymous
from Wisconsin
"I have been using these counterweight kits since BPS first came out with them and currently own 6 or 8 of them. I have had only two problems with them. They tend to unscrew after casting a while. You will notice a rattling of the weights while casting. Simple solution is to keep tightening . . . . but not too tight! That was my second problem . . . I went too tight once and broke the threaded insert in the rod butt (it looks like it's brass, like the weights, but it's really plastic). I was going to send the rod in for repair, but I had some 5-minute epoxy glue at home and had it fixed in . . . . ah . . . . I would guess 5 minutes. The next day on the lake and it was as good as new. That was about 3 years ago, and it's still catching fish.
Buying the kit is a no-brainer to me. I have recommended them to all my friends when they order a BPS rod that is fitted for them. They are amazed at the difference that it makes, especially while using worms, jigs, and any finesse bait where you need the rod tip up and require a sensitive touch.

Seems odd, but it works,
March 29, 2008

"I wouldn't have thought that adding weight would help with fatigue, but in the right spot it was a major improvement. I used to fight to keep the rod tip up all day, but now that its balanced my arms don't have to hold the unbalanced rod tip up in the air hour after hour. Good job BPS...I guess my only thought is why don't all rods come from the factory with some type of adjustment like this?"

"I love this product. It makes the rod feel almost weightless in your hands because you can tune in the balance so percisely. I can cast all day and not feel fatigued at all. I won't buy another rod unless it can accept this kit."

Great Purchase, Great Product,
February 20, 2008
By BigBassTom
from Morehead, KY
"The XPS Balance Kit is about as good a purchase as you can make. It does exactly what it needs to do. It does add weight to your rod but its not weight that you are fighting against and it gets your rod tip up where it should be with minimal effort on your part. There are enough weights and combinations that you can make your rod feel right in your hands. Depending on how much weight you apply, it does lengthen your butt a bit. I am buying one for my 6ft. pro qualifier for that very reason. One thing that you cannot tell from the picture is that the balancer does fit over the cork when screwed all the way in, so it is very secure and I have no worries of this piece falling off or breaking."

Weights are hard to remove,
February 19, 2008
By BassJunky
from Kingston, On
"Overall this is a great product and made a huge difference on my Woo daves worming rod paired with a Shimano Curado. The only problem I see is that once you put a weight in the butt they are hard if not impossible to get out. It is best to place one at a time and make sure you get the exact weight you want or you could be stuck with a butt end that is too heavy and not be able to get the weights back out"
