"Ever time I have a bass running with the line I make a hook set THE LINE BREAKS. I had a friend with me He had no problems with his line and I asked him to try this line and It broke on the fist hook set.. Man I never had to give a bad review but this line I had is junk I called back to see what they will do for me. I will be back to let you all know what they well do with this line !?!?!?!?!?!?!?!"

Great line!

Advantages: Ease of use, Style/Design, Performs well, Value for money, Quality, casts far, durable
"This line is great! One of the only lines I have found that I can use for 2 completely different fish. The line is strong enough for fishing northern pike but still flexible and cast-able enough to use on small mouth bass. I bought 1 spool of 14# test and use it for everything! Great line!"

Worst Purchase so far from Bass Pro

,
May 9, 2011
By cxl1
from Oshkosh, WI
Advantages: none unless you don't catch any fish!
Disadvantages: bird's nest champion of mono!
"Hey guys, love bass pro, especially their Johnny Morris and Extreme equipment, but this is one purchase I am sorry to have made. I own 10+ quality spinning outfits, so based on all my prior experience with Bass Pro products, I expected their mono Excel fishing line to be of the same superior quality. WRONG! I decided to switch out the line on most of my spinning reels, so I re-spooled all 10 of my favorite rods with this line. This past Saturday evening, I had my first opportunity to try it out. Tied on my favorite shoreline casting lure for walleye, a #5 Countdown Rapala. The line seemed great, easy to tie palomar knot and definately has great breaking strength. So I headed to the lakeshore and proceeded to cast. Again, so far, so good. Casting distance was about equivalent to the Trilene XL that was my old standby. So after a bit of casting, I got a nice solid hookset and proceeded after a decent fight with several drag taking runs to land a nice 22" walleye. Very cool I thought, I'm gonna love this line, let's get another fish. So I casted again, and on this very next cast, at the end of the cast, the line twisted itself up into an unbelievable nest of line twists. I'm not talking just one small one, but about half a dozen LARGE ones that wanted to twist back on themselves, around my rod guides and the fishing rod itself. Unbelievable! I have always been very adept at clearing line snarls, even in baitcasters when I make a horrible cast trying to skip docks, but this was literally impossible to clear. I ended up having to cut at least 30 yards off and proceed to retrieve my casted Rapala hand over hand. So Ok, I'm stuck with the line....I had spooled enough to continue fishing as I had only brought one rod to the lake with me. So I have a second solid hookup, this time with a smaller 18" walleye. I was able to bring this one in with minimal runs taking drag but still decent line pressure. I unhooked this one and again, the very next cast, the sample incredible impossible line twisting mess. So now after only 2 fish and 60+ yards of line lost, my fishing night was done. Sorry guys, as much as I love your products, this one is a complete LOSER! My only thought is the line must be so soft that when retrieving with pressure through the line guides, it must flatten the line on one side similar to curling ribbon by pulling it along a hard edge on one side. Back to formula with this one guys! BTW, my experience was with 6lb test. In all fairness, that's the only line strength I tried, but I won't be ordering any more just to check those out. I read a couple other poor reviews about this line, but just figured maybe it was from the few people inexperienced with fishing, but they were right."

What Happened?

,
March 6, 2011
By Kamala

Disadvantages: Difficult to use, Performance
"This at one time was the best mono for the price. The "new and improved" version is terrible. It is stiff like a spring. The couple of spools from 2004 that I had were much more limp. If I want to throw a coil spring, I would buy Stren."

Good product

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Value for money, Quality
"Good product. Bass Pro Shop seems to be only supplier to offer a real affordable way to buy 4000 plus yards for around a total of $30.00. If you spool just once a year and have 20-30 reels, buying 300 yard spools would get really expensive and one third the costs is just no comparison. I can not tell the difference in the more expensive brands."

"I have been useing exel line for quite a few years. It seems to hold up well for all the types of fishing my family and I do. With grandchildren who need to have
new line put on quite often to the fact we change line
out on a regular basis, the large spool is a good deal
all the way around. Good Quality,Little Knot Slip, and holds up in alot of places some lines wont.
