"Back in 1994 I purchased a 9,000 yard spool of 6lb test Bass Pro Shops Excel line in the green color. I remember using the line on every outting and had great success. Then I graduated highschool and went on to college and so forth. During this time I had not fished. Fast forward to 2006 I later found this old spool and thought what the heck I'll give it a shot and if it breaks on knots and casts then I'll just toss it in the garbage. Much to my surprise the line held up just as strong as it did the day I got it. I found this spool sitting in my tool shed where it gets very hot during the summers and we all know that heat and fishingline don't mix. Of course the line was stored in the cardboard box that it originally came in but we're talking about 12 years in storage. I've tried many lines in the past and I'm still currently experimenting with other brands. Names like Pline, Maxima, Ande, suffix, Trilene, Izorline, even over seas brand like Dam. These lines have been purchased long after I've forgotten about the Excel and the only brand that comes close in durability over time would be p-line cxx-xtra strong. If you haven't tried it give it a shot. Overall, I'm not saying Excel is the strongest line out there but if I were to rate it it would be like this.
Knot Strength: 4/5 *When compared to more expensive brands.
Break Strength: 4/5 *When compared to more expensive brands.
Memory: 5/5 *When compared to any brand.
Castability: 5/5 *When compared to any brand.
Abrasion: 4/5 *This is expected of line that is this soft and castable.
Durability: 5/5* This is where the line really shines.
There is no other line that I've used out there that has maintained all of it's original chracteristics over a long period of time. Bass Pro Shops Excel is definitely one of the best value out there."

What happened to Excel line?,
February 20, 2010
Disadvantages: Difficult to use, Performance
"Excel monofilament used to be the best value out there in monofilament line, comparing favorably to Stren and Trilene in every aspect and much less expensive. Since the switch to a Chinese manufacturer, the line no longer performs well, coils badly, has too much memory, and just doesn't perform very well in any category, especially on spinning reels."

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Style/Design, Value for money
"I have always been a Stren man and it
is an excellent line but the memory is it's weakness. I love braid as well, Power pro but have tired of the headaches of night fishing with it so I went back to mono and Excel is by far the best I have ever used.I have tried them all, Trilene, Stren, P-line, Suffix, and so on. I use the 14lbs. test clear blue flourescent on my 1955 Abu Ambassaduer and there isn't a bass or a scenario that I can't land what I hook. Great sensitivity, durability, extremely abrassion resistant and memory when compared to all other mono is non existant. You have nothing to lose if you want a line that is dependable and managable try it. If you aren't satisfied you can bring whatever's left on the spool back to BPS for a full refund. Who else does that? Not to mention the fact that you can get twice as much line for half the price of Stren."
