"I bought a planing type bass boat that would not go on plane until 20 mph. Everytime I tried to back off on the speed on plane just alittle below 20 mph the bow would come up. Bought the SE 300 plus screwless mounting kit. Did my quick layout of parts mounting bracket and did not feel that it would be sturdy enough and not fall off during use. I did a hard mount of the hydrofoil which was very easy to do. It is now seculy attached. Iwould not recomend the extra mounting hardware. Not easy to use and will not be securely attached. IT WILL FALL OFF! I now get up on plane at 15 mph and can then back speed off to 10-12 mph. Huge difference. It also make easy steering of the boat. If you are considering buying a new or used bass boat the 1st thing extra I would purchase is the SE 300 hydrofoil. Best investment made so far. Good Luck and Be SAFE!"

Good But Doesn't Age Well,August 24, 2009

"I installed one on my boat (equipped with a Johnson 115) soon after I bought the boat. Definitely helped my hole shot and handling. I did experience the customary 1-2 MPH loss.
Still a very good unit.
I have a partial cover that allowes the sun to hit the hrdrofoil for about 2 hours per day. After about 10 years the coating is gone and the material started to break down; it looks bad and I'm sure is affecting my top end.
I will get a replacement unit."

"Purchased this item after hours of research on the net. Found this to be the most reliable and everything it said it was. super fast hole shot very low plane speed and gained 2.5 mph on top end absolutly no porpusing and no chinewalking. Cavitation was not eliminated but was reduced by 95% If this thing was a LOTTO TICKET I would be a millionare Absolutly the best boat accessory purchase I have ever made If you buy anything else or dont buy one at all you are missin out."

"I installed the SE300 foil with the clip on my Mercury Alpha 1 outdrive hoping to reduce some serious cavitation problems. I have a 22 ft. deck boat with a 4.3 liter motor. The installation was easy and the results are very impressive! Cavitation only happens if I have my trim too high and a minor adjustment gets the boat moving again like a car slipping in snow and hitting a dry spot. What I did not expect was the improved handling and acceleration. Trim adjustments change the boat ride immediately and drastically. I can rise the front of the boat up high in rough water and keep everyone dry even in a loaded boat. My old top speed comes quickly, and tail wagging while moving at low speeds is greatly reduced. This is a great product!"

"when I would fish by myself the front of my boat would come up so high I couldn't see over the bow. After installing this which only took me 20 minutes the next time I was on the water my boat was level even if I got on the gas hard from a dead stop. However as some other folks mentioned I did lose 2mph on my top end. FYI, I have a 14 Alumacraft with a Suzuki 9.9."

"I put this on my 16 ft deep v aluminum with a 60 4-stroke and wow, what a difference. It has almost completely elimated bow lift on take off and the time to get on plane is less than half of what it used to be. I drilled holes because of too many bad reviews read about the no-drill system. It does everything it is advertised to do."

"After installing the SE Sport 200 on a Honda BF25 , the motor brought the Smoker-Craft Alaskan 15 right up on plane with a full load of people and gear. Before installing this , the boat sort of porpoised along. I would recommend these to anyone with a planing problem. It sure works well in my situation."

"Installed on a 13' Smokercraft Alaskan with a 15 HP Honda motor. Fairly easy to install. I could not tell any difference in performance. Motor has power tilt and tried running in various positions, but motor performed the same as it did before installation. I am returning. Now I have 4 holes to fill."

"I have owned the 200 series Hydrofoil for over 5 years and have loved every minute of it. I remember when I had first talked about getting one of these; I was laughed at. Seriously, the men in my bass club laughed at me, and to make matters worse my dad did not want to install it either because it required four holes to be drilled in the motor for mounting. I’ll admit, drilling a hole in anything (especially on a man’s bass boat) is a hard thing to overcome; it’s “permanent” so who wouldn’t be somewhat hesitant, but if you have a smaller boat ( 18’ or less) and you have any of the following problems (see below) while running your boat then I would highly recommend installing one of these. Those who laughed at me are now puling their feet out of their mouth, as the performance increase with this Hydrofoil is easily noticeable. Since the installation I can get out of the hole on my 16’ Dyna-Trak in less than 2 seconds, I can stay on plane at speeds as low as 15mph, and my fuel efficiency has increased as much as 20% when running long strides on our local river. It is my favorite and most efficient upgrade that I have installed on my boat.
**Signs that you may want to invest in a Hydrofoil** 1. Your boat takes a long time getting out of the hole. 2. You have problems keeping your boat “on plane” at very low speeds 3. Your ride doesn’t feel smooth 4. You have less than average fuel efficiency when considering your boats capabilities
I only recommend one of these for an 18’ boat or less as mentioned above, because any bigger boat is usually going to have a big enough motor and efficient enough design to satisfy anyone (with the highest level of performance that you would expect for owning such a rig). I have also never seen a boat bigger than 18’ or motor over 200/hp with a Hydrofoil attached and probably for good reason. In my opinion, Hydrofoils are meant for smaller boats that want the performance and efficiency of nicer rigs that they wish to imitate, or to fix issues such as the ones mentioned above that you are having with your smaller boat. I’m sure somebody out there has a 300/hp Optimax with a Hydrofoil in it, but it won’t ever be me.
**Cons** 1. Drilling holes in your motor to mount. I have seen the “no drill” mounts that are now available, bur after having read the reviews on them here at BassPro and by “google-ing” reviews for them, I can surely say that I would only drill mount mine. Read the reviews on the “no drill” mounts for yourself and make your own judgment, but I’ve done enough research on these and have found ZERO problems with the drill mounted ones. 2. If you have a small garage just keep in mind that this Hydrofoil will add another 5-6 inches to your trailers overall length. When I added mine on it pushed the front of the trailer within an inch of the garage door (when shut).
That’s it! Other than that, this was an amazing buy and with a limited lifetime warranty how can you go wrong? If anything happens to it you’re guaranteed a replacement (excluding accidental – of course).

"Purchased the SE Sport 300 for a 16 ft Hydra-Sport bass boat with a 115 hp Johnson outboard. This boat was slow out of the hole and the bow rise was so bad you couldn't see what was in front of the boat, also driving the boat at slower speeds was impossible because of the porpoising. After installing the SE Sport 300 all of these problems have been eliminated and the boat handles great. Installation is easy and takes about 15 minutes."

"I INSTALLED SE 200 ON A 2OOO, REGAL 19 1/2 FT CUDDY(LSC) WITH A 4.3L VOLVO AND A VOLVO SX DRIVE. INSTALLATION TOOK NO MORE THEN 15 MINUTES, LOOKS GREAT. BOAT NOW PLANES IN 1/2 THE TIME AT LOWER SPEEDS, TOP SPEED INCREASED 1-2 MPH. TRIMMING DOWN IN ROUGH WATER ALSO ALLOWS BOAT FRT END TO SPLIT WAVES, BETTER AND SMOOTHS OUT RIDE. I HAVE NOT FOUND A DOWN SIDE TO THIS PRODUCT. I HAVE USED A STINGRAY XPR III, HYDROFOIL, THAT REQUIRES NO DRILLING. EASY INSTALL, PERFORMS SIMILARLY, SLIGHTLY BETTER IN ROUGH WATER AND PLANING, BUT NO IMPROVEMENT IN TOP SPEED. THIS ONE FELL OFF EVEN WITH LOK-TITE AND LOCK WASHER. I DID NOT SEE ANY SIGNIFICANT FUEL SAVINGS BUT IT DOESN'T HURT. EVERY BOAT NEEDS ONE BUY IT!!!"

"I just put the 300 series on my 2008 Tahoe Q4. I have the boat set up for wakeboarding with a tower. I had to limit the amount of weight in the rear of the boat so it could reach plane before installing the hydrofoil. Now it doesn't matter where anyone sits. HUGE difference in Plane time. It definately saves on gas due to not having to have the throttle mashed down to reach plane. Also the boat doesn't bounce around anywhere near as much. Basically the boat just rides a lot smoother. I will never own a boat without one again. Best mod for the price."

"Easy to install...mine took about 10 minutes on a Yamaha F50 50hp four-stroke outboard. It does what it is supposed to do. It gets me on plane quicker, keeps me on plane at slower speeds, and improves gas mileage, while picking up an additional 3 mph or so at full throttle (according to GPS), and helps during tight turning at speed. It will change things a little, so you will need to play around with the tilt/trim a little to find the most efficient settings again. I previously had to run with the motor all the way down to keep the bow down. Now I need to trim up a little a higher speeds.

"I put this on a 90HP Merc 2 stroke 17' Bass Boat. It did get on plane quicker, but when I trimed out, it dumped water into the back of the boat. Additionally, when I throttled down it threw water into the back of the boat. Additionally, it felt a little unstable on tight turns. For the price, I think the Stingray works best. I've used both."

"I have a 50hp Johnson and this is a great addition. I have found better fuel mileage and once on plain I can run slower RPM's. This really helps when your trying to get all you can get out of your small outboard"

"Before I installed this on my new Mercury 115 Optimax, out of the hole was a little slow. Now I can get on plane a lot quicker, and the ride on choppy water is a LOT smother. Instillation is quick and easy with common tools. Turning also is more stable and tighter at higher speeds. Want more Performance? GET ONE FOR YOUR MOTOR!!!!!!"
