Right out of the box, a Buck Knife is sharper, keeps its edge longer, and is easier to resharpen when needed. "I have had this hunting knife since my first deer hunting trip back in 1995! It holds an edge great. My hunting partner also got one at the same time. Both our knives have held up very well over the years."

Vanguard,January 27, 2008
By txnewbiefrom DFW, TX
"I bought the Buck Vanguard Rosewood and two days later I was lucky enough to get 4 medium ferrel hogs. The Vanguard had perfect handling and the balence was spot on. The edge was razor sharp out of the box. I did touch up the edge after gutting, skining, quatering, and butchering all for hogs but it was still sharp. I am going to pick up another one with the secure grip for general purpose camp/utility knive. THANK YOU BUCK!!!!!!"

Knife of Knives,January 2, 2008
By wapiti1from New Castle, CO
"I've hunted big game for 23 years and have fumbled through numerous brands and types of knives. Some good, some average, and some not so good. Now I'm not going to tell you that this knife will do everything you need it to and that you will never have to buy another knife, but if ever there is such a knife, this is the closest I have found. This knife feels great in the hand, and the design of the blade makes it very versitile. It works well for gutting, and even a little better for skinning. It also works fairly well for boning. Buck Knives' have always been known for their hard steel and ability to hold an edge. I've heard some complain that they are very hard to obtain an edge on after losing their initial edge. I have only found this to be true on Buck knives with a reverse beveled edge such as the 110 folder. The Vangaurd is relatively easy to resharpen. As far as holding an edge.........3 elk, 1 antelope, and 6 whitetail in 2007 and I might have to touch it up a little. Purchase this knife and I promise you won't be disappointed."

12 years and still going.,June 5, 2006
By dalawfrom Atlanta, GA
"I have used my Buck knife for twelve years. It has survived skinning and boning at least fifty deer. I recently used it to butcher four hogs. The blade will stay sharp for three or four deer, and at least two hogs. All that is needed to regain my factory edge, is a couple strokes on a quality steel. The black rubber grip is a must for a non slip handle. After using my knife, two of my brothers purchased one of their own. This is one knife that follows me to any hunt"
