As your boat is driven onto the trailer, the bow eye contacts the Boat Buddy® and triggers a spring-loaded, stainless steel bolt through the bow eye, thereby attaching the boat to the trailer. Non-marring pad won't harm boat. Easy installation - replaces typical 3" or 4" wide roller assembly. Intended for use with U-bolt bow eyes. (Not recommended for cast bow eyes.)

Good, not Great!,November 3, 2009
By Shane1999
Advantages: Features Disadvantages: Quality
"I have this unit on my Mastercraft. They sold this product as being able to drive the boat up onto the trailer, clipping into the buddy and telling the tow driver to pull out.
Not quite. Any wind, rough water, or current will make this process extremely difficult. If you come in at any angle with a larger boat, you will damage the pin and internal parts of the buddy. I'm on my 2nd one. Now, I walk my boat into the buddy to insure a soft clip in with no damage to the buddy.
I've also carpeted the face of the Buddy so that it doesn't leave rubber grey streaks on the hull of my boat. But my boat gel coat is black, so folks that have white hulls may be ok.
And be sure you never pull in without removing the pin. Either mistake will damage the buddy (with bigger boats)."

go bigger,September 9, 2008

"I have a 21' center console. I bought the small model. It worked as advertised. Putting the boat on the trailer was a "snap". HOWEVER...while pulling the boat out on a steep ramp, the pin on the buddy bent and popped out of its socket. Had my boat not had the safety chain on I would have had a really bad day. If your boat is heavy, disregard the length and buy the large model."

Boat Buddy,July 31, 2008
By Sawbuckfrom Central CA
"I used to work for a marine dealership and have launched and recovered many boats with a boat buddy onboard. Most of the time they work great as I had to launch and recover by myself when testing a boat. Sometimes, however, the boat would not hit squarely and bend the pin. I would like to see it be built of stronger rubber and steel to withstand this problem."

Boat Buddy - 1,May 18, 2008
By Wallichaser
"This product will not perform as advertised on my boat/trailer setup.
Yacht Club Trailer, all cradle roller designed for deep-v 16.5 ft. Lund fishing boat. Trailer does not have center frame tube, thus no keel rollers to assist in raising the bow eye hook to the correct position for triggering the latch pin. On my first attempt at drive-on trailering, the bow contacted the Boat Buddy about 8" above the eye hook and with the rubber finish of the BB-1 housing causing a lot of friction, no amount of thrust would move the bow up into position.
I tried adjusting the winch stand position and arm height with no success and actually encountered other winch strap interference and use problems.
There is no place to attach an adjustable keel roller on my trailer which would have assisted in getting the bow hook to the correct height.
Summary: It's a great idea, but this product will not work on this type of boat trailer without major modifications to the trailer frame.
One other comment: I would recommend a set of short bunk guide-on boards if your trailer doesn't have them. Any wind or side current and you will have a hard time hitting the BB-1 dead center for a clean hook-up"

A Must Have,April 24, 2008
By JV4Nitrofrom Rockwall, TX
"I have used the Boat Buddy on four loads and I am very, very impressed. I bought the Boat Buddy II and I wish I would have bought this a long time ago. No more jumping on and off the boat, when I'm alone. When my partner backs the trailer in, it's a simple drive on, lock and pull out. This is an absolutely amazing product and a must have for anyone who owns a boat!!!"

boat buddy,April 6, 2008
By teagfrom Jacksonville, Florida
"I bought the boat buddy because I fish alone alot. Installation was easy, but the lock pin would not release to secure my boat. I really think this product is for small boats 10 to 15 foot . Not for boats over 20ft."

"I have owned the Boat Buddy for around 15 years. It still works perfectly, I have never had any problems with it. I have a 19ft. runabout and it handles the boat with no problems. (I have the smaller one)"

Not Up To Par,February 27, 2007
By JimmyLfrom Plano, TX
"I think this is a good idea but I was disappointed in its performance. The mechanism locking mechanism bent on first use - normal pressure was used; I was also using the recommended buddy for my 17' Nitro.
I tried it two more times just to make sure first impressions were not skewed. I still was disappointed so I returned it to BP and they graciously gave a full refund.
The manufacturer should consider making a stronger model. It should then perform well and last for a satisfactory time."

Good Product But Be Careful,November 9, 2006
By pittcountyfrom North Carolina
"I've been using a Boat Buddy for 3 years and have been through several of them. It is a great product and I highly recommend one. But be careful loading your boat. If you miss the centerline and ride over the edge of the Buddy, it will bend the mechanism and make it useless. It is NOT forgiving ! This is the only design flaw. So be sure you hit the centerline of your bow rollers everytime. If you miss, you'll need a new locking mechanism. You can call the company and get another one. I now keep an extra one for backup."

God Sent,July 23, 2006
By HENNYfrom Garrett, In.
"I can finally trailor my boat without trying to find someone to help me. I am handicapped and can't bend down to try and reach my wenchstrap to secure my boat. The Boat Buddy IS my buddy!! There is no maintainence and it works just as slick as it claims. I just purchased a second one for my lazy son in law! He loves it!"

Boat Buddy Trailer Accessory,July 11, 2006
By bass Fishing onlyfrom Cedar rapids, Iowa
"Great idea but a little weak, I'm on my second set-up! If the boat doesn't hit almost dead center you run the risk of damaging the unit by bending the latch pin assembly. I corrected this by adding a pair of 5" diameter rollers about 10" ahead of the latch, I had to make the brackets but it works great now!"
