"I bought four of these a while back (two of the lite models and two of the standard 6 to 1 models) when they were running a sale. I usually like Quantum baitcasters the best, but I think these are a great value for the money. A little harder to dial the casting brakes in than on my Quantums, but otherwise a good performing, solid reel. Last summer I was wading in the weeds in a shallow lake using an Extreme Lite loaded with 8 lb mono and caught a nice 12 lb bass. I'm sure glad the drag was as smooth as it is, because I had to chase that bass the clumps of weeds for a bit, before I caught up to her. A bad drag certainly would have endangered 8 lb line in a situation like this. So I can thank my Extreme for helping me to bag my biggest bass that I've caught so far."

"I love ths reel...I've had this reel since July 2009, I use it at least 3 times a week. No problems at all. Very smooth and easy to use. I have the 7.1:1 ratio, great for all kinds of baits.Where I fish I have small strike zones, I like the fast retieve to recast again as much as possible."

"I own 8 of these reels, the problem is that I have had to return almost everyone of of them at some point. I even had to retrun a return. I used to love them and recommend them, not anymore. I continue to have problems with their casting, normally no distance, and back lashes for no reason. I see they have changed the entire high speed mechanism once again. Even some of the new ones have problems."

"I bought one of these reels from the Oklahoma store. It felt realy smooth and it wasnt as expensive as my J.M. Signature Series. I used it twice and on my third outing it started to grind the gears. When i would start to reel the spool release would not come back up all the way. Im also not a big fan of the braking system, backlash hapens with this reel. I called the Springfield store and they told me i could send it in for a replacement, but i just figured what the heck its not broke. Maybe I got a bad one"

"I bought this reel at a Bass Pro in Tennessee for $60 on sale. I have it on a Field & Stream IM7 6 1/2 ft mh rod. I mainly thorough a Spinnerbait, Jig or Chatterbait/Boogiebait on this. It works great. I have the Flippin switch and am still learning how to use it. i havent caught a fish yet on it but am hopeful. It cast great, reels great and is an awsome reel for the price. The dis advantage is it doesn't cast light lured (1/8 texas rig) well. If it is 1/4 ounce or heavier it cast fine. Still it is a great reel, Definetly something to get. When i need a new Baitcaster i am definetly gettin one of these."

"I bought this reel looking for a super high speed for using lipless crank baits in shallow water and burning spinner and buzz baits. the reel has performed well but has some issues. the cintrifical bread is tight on mine i dont know if i got a bad one. i let my friend try it he bought one and the sliding eye on his stopped going back and forth to put the line back on the spool. other than that a really good reel i have 12lb p-line cx on it and have caught many fish on it the brake being tight hasnt been a hassel just a small irratation. "give a man a fish feed him for a day teach a man to fish he will be stumped for life""

"To date, this is the smoothest casting reel that I've ever owned! I have typically always purchased less expensive equipment, and have never seen the need for a $200 reel on a $200 rod!
I like to find equipment that is high quality, at a fair price, and I definately found it in the BPS Extreme reel. So far, I have owned it for about 4 months, and fished with it about 8 times or so. Very impressed with the quality and smoothness of this reel. I use it primarily for Texas Rigged plastics.
I have it rigged on a 7' MH BPS Crankin' Stick (for backbone on hooksets) spooled with Trilene XT 14lb mono.
I've fished with a few high-end setups, like Curados on All Star rods...but I litereally couldn't be happpier with this current setup!"

Newer Vs. Older Extreme Baitcaster,May 25, 2009

"I have previously purchased two Extreme baitcasters. One is the 10 model and the other is the 05 model. I love both of these reels! They are smooth as silk when casting and reeling. The magnetic cast control works great with both braided line and mono. I recently purchased the newest "10" model in the 7 to 1 gear ratio. I couldn't wait to get some line on it to start using it. I disliked several things about it: 1. The recurve handle "nut cover" beat my index knuckle to death when reeling the line in. I never had this problem with the straight handle model. 2. I had to adjust the magnetic cast control knob almost to the max # to prevent any backlashes. On my older reels, that setting is usually around 3 or 4. (I do know how to adjust my reel to prevent backlashing and have been using a baitcast reel for a long time) I noticed the new spool design no longer has the centrifugal plate on the spool like the older model has. This may or may not have something to do with the problem I was experiencing. After attempting to fine tune this adjustment for hours, I decided to return the reel. I wanted to like it but my better judgment told me that wasn't gonna happen. I'm not sure if the reel was defective or if it was working as designed."

"i have 16 of these reels and i have never had one fail .they are by far the best casting and smoothest reels on the market for under $80. I have turned all of my fellow tournment competors on to them and they all love them .They are a liittle hard to dial in when you first get one, but you wont be dissapointed with them"

"I've owned several baitcast reels of various prices. This is the best of them all. I bought the reel, put line on it and took it to Canada for a week of fishing for northern pikes and walleyes. It perfomed admirably on both including a 34" northern. It worked consistently for a solid week of fishing. I'm looking forward to years of service. My Ambassador 5500 is gathering dust."
