"I recently purchased the Spirex 1000fg to replace an old quantum that I had. I put it on an All Star classic series 6' UL rod and took it on a trout fishing trip to the White river in the Ozarks of Arkansas. I was extremely pleased on how it performed. I had 6 lb test line loaded on it and was tossing 1/8 oz. Rooster tail spinners and Powerbait. It would cast a mile, and very accurately. The double handle was very comfortable, and I was very pleased with the quickfire II feature. After landing my biggest Trout ever, a 5 lb. Rainbow, I can say that the drag performed smoothly and flawlessly. Thank you Shimano, I will probably purchase this reel again to replace my other aging spinning reels very soon!"

"honestly, i think this is one of the best products i have ever purchased. the drag is incredibly smooth, you can cast a mile with it, and the cranking is smooth and powerfull. i was a little skeptical about the dual handle, in fact i was going to order a different one from shimano, but i kept the handle and it has really paid off. the dual handles balance the reel a lot . overall it's a great reel for the price."

"I recently purchased this reel after someone stole my reel. I have used shimano reels exclusively for several years with very good results. However, I found this reel to be very unsatisfactory. For starters it is heavy. Also, when reeling in it feels like you are dragging something heavy even while using only a topwater rapala."

"I have always used Shimano spinning reels. I may be in the minority but I prefer the quickfire II feature and still use my symetre with this feature that has to be over 12 yrs. old. I have an older model spirex as well and the newer features on the current model has really improved an already very good spinning reel. Noticeable improvements are longer casts and quicker smoother retrieves. Durability is what you would expect from any Shimano reel with proper care it will last you a very long time."

"In the past, I've had problems with hooksetting with spinning reels. The dual handle on the Spirex eliminates that for me. It's like using a baitcaster to set the hook. I have it paired with a 6 1/2 foot BPS Bionic Blade. I was able to catch my personal best Smallmouth Bass with it, at a lake where I had little sucess in the past. This was due to mostly hooksetting problems. She's over 3 lbs and over 18 inches long. Thanks BPS."

"My buddies and I have used shimano reels for a while now and they have been great, until this reel. My biggest complaint is that it doesnt have instant anti reverse. I will not recommend this product to anyone. I was very disapionted with it."

"This is the 4rd Spirex reel I've purchased and I love them! Bought this one in South Florida while on a biz trip that turned into a few extra days of fishing. I paired it with a Browning 3-piece medium travel rod. Great combo! I caught several nice 4 - 6 pund largemouth (as well as a bunch of small ones) and the reel performed flawlessly. It's extremely smooth, the drag is smooth and I love the trigger on the bail that allows for single handed casting. I've purchased Shimano products for over 20 years and they can't be beat!"
