Solid value for price, I think.

Advantages: Ease of use, Value for money
"I bought one of these to put on my 6ft med action fiberglass Zebco "authentic" rod that came in a combo with a Zebco "authentic" 33 reel (the zebco reel wore out, nothing against Zebco lots of people like them so maybe I got a bad one). The reel is a good match for the rod, comes with me in my canoe for a versatile and easy to use set-up.
I put 14lb Stren original on it (I like the gold golor) and have fished it twice so far without problems. I will try to post a subsequent review once it gets fished more.
PERFORMANCE: No trouble so far, functions as designed casts and reels without event. Not going to win any distance contests, though I think it would cast further with 10lb or 12lb than the 14, or if I would use a heavier lure (was chucking 1/4 oz). Some have said the drag is weak; I agree it could go heavier but turned up to max it seems about right to me for the 14 lb line.
FEEL: Feels heavy and solid compared to my old Zebco. I can feel the gears a little bit when reeling-- it doesn't affect my fishing but it does not inspire confidence that this reel will last forever. Anti-reverse is very good for a reel in this price range.
QUALITY: The spool cover is very solid, will not bend or warp, and threads very solidly to the reel -- this is better than some competing reels and should ensure smooth pick-up and reeling for a long time. Though this reel is not designed for saltwater use, I used it in brackish. Cleaning it a few days later I had small amounts of surface corrosion on the inner spool cap, I was able to clean them off. If using this reel in brackish or salt water I would rinse in fresh water ASAP after use every time and oil it well before using again. I really don't recommend it for brackish or salt water for this reason. Because I haven't had it for long I can't speak to its durability.
SUMMARY: In all respects this reel appears to be a versatile, easy to use piece of tackle at an attractive price point. I expect that if I keep it clean and use it as it was designed it will last for at least a few years of regular use, but I am not sure if I would give it "for life" type confidence. No idea what some of the others who gave negative reviews are doing to this thing, I have no hint of the kind of problems they report. If I ever need to replace it I might try a Zebco Omega or Omega Pro, or the Abu Garcia 1276 SLi, but more out of curiosity than necessity.
RATING: Assessing quality alone it would be a 3 but I gave it a 4 because I think at that price its a good value for an easy to use, versatile reel. Just clean and oil it after use, don't try to reel in a tarpon, and don't let it bang around in the bed of a pickup truck all week and it ought to last just fine. I like this reel plenty and recommend it to anyone shopping in this price range.
SPINCAST TIP: I have found that many spincast reels can be picky about what line is on them. Standard "smooth casting" mono lines seem to work best (this one seems good with the Stren line noted above). Avoid lines with lots of memory, like flourocarbon. If you are getting lots of jams try slightly increasing or decreasing the line weight, or try a heavier lure. They most commonly jam when casting into the wind or when there is a lot of slack (try to always keep light tension on the line). If you get a jam, take off the outer cover and then the inner cap, the tangle is usually below that inner cap."

Lacks Abu Garcia Quality

Advantages: Ease of use, Style/Design
Disadvantages: Performance
"Feels and operates equal to a $15 Zebco. Not the normal superior quality you would expect from Abu Garcia. Sloe retrieve ratio, poor drag performance, sounds like a cheap Zebco. Not worth the price tag."

Nice reel

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well
Disadvantages: reel cap design
"I bought two of these reels for my kids. Regarding functionality so far I have no complaints. Seems like a good reel that will hold up. My only gripe is that the reel cap is very hard to get threaded on just right, and it looks to be easy to strip the threads. So be careful not to force it on."

Compared to OLDER Model

,

Advantages: Performs well, Quality
"The 476i seem to be a good reel.
however the "i" model does not look like the photo in the ad. (Photo is 476 older model)
I personally like the older model 476 ( No "I")
This new model has a smaller reel cover, but seems to work good. Also the mounting onto rod is slightly more restricted. I had problems as I do not use it for fishing but mount to a suport plate and it has a more restricted clearance in the mounting to reel cover."

Fantastic Reel

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Value for money, Quality
"I own several of these. I do a lot of catfishing in a river and have one of these attached to an Ugly Stik Catfish rod. The reel holds up and performs very well when I have a 5 or 6 pound cat on the line. This is a fantastic reel for the money. Smooth action and I have never had a single problem with this reel."

Nice reel

"I bought two of these 476i reels last year. I have spent a few days on the water with one of them and it performs very well. I used it for continuous casting and retrieving.
Line twist is the nature of any spinning type reel. I did not see much line twist with continuous use of this reel. A similar reel of a different brand is what I fished with on the following day. The other brand did have a lot of line twist.
The Trilene line that is standard on the Abu Garcia spincast reels does very well. The 476i came with Trilene XL 12 pound test line. Some other brands of reels come with poorer line that has an excessive amount of memory and must be replaced before you can use the reel.
When you pick this reel up that is encased in aluminum. You feel like you are holding a quality product. It is smooth to cast and retrieve with and is very simple to operate.
Since it is made of mostly metal it is a little heavier than the plastic reels. That extra weight is just extra quality.
There are lots of good spincast reels available. From my experience this is one of the better ones for 10 - 14 pound line. The only reel that might top it is the Abu Garcia 170i reel.
The nice thing about a casting rod with a spin cast reel. It is very versatile without spending a lot of money to get it. A decent rod rated for about 8 to 20 pound line. This medium sized reel along with a lighter reel for 6-8 pound line. A larger spincast with about 15-20 pound line. You are now covered for every type of fresh water fishing. You are then ready for light, medium, and heavy fishing from one outfit for less than $150. You do not have to buy it all at once.
That same casting rod is also designed to work with trolling and casting reels if you wanted to add one of them to your outfit."

Terrible reel!

Disadvantages: Performance, Durability
"Bought 3 of these, 1 for wife and 2 for kids to use striper fishing. First one tore up on the first fishing trip and the other 2 didn't make it through 3 total fishing trips. Something comes apart that engages and dis-engages the reel. Must be made in Taiwann, definetly not ABU quality!"
