"Well I am sitting here packing the reel back up to send back for a refund. I have fished for over 40 years, have had a ton of reels and by far this is the biggest piece of junk I have ever purchased.
I bought it for my wife who had major shoulder reconstruction has to cast with her "other arm" now.
It took us 30 minutes just to change the handle from one side to the other to start with.(that should have been a clue) I took it out on our lake to use it before going on a guided smallmouth fishing trip this weekend. I caught about a 3 lb bass, the drag did not work properly, (thankfully I had it hooked very good!) The lever to release the line broke in the process but I eventually landed the fish. I couldn't believe my eyes!! It was too late to order another reel so went to a local sporting goods store and bought a top of the line Shimano spinning reel.
I wouldn't advise buying this reel!!!!!!!!!!"

"I bought this reel last spring for my wife based on the reviews I read. It is a well made reel, cast well, and is easy to use. The only thing I didn't like was it is kind of big and heavy. I tried it out myself then let my wife have it. She also said it is kind of heavy, but likes it alot other then that. It is used for bass and crappie fishing."

"Bought this for my wife and I;ve used it a couple of times. Put it on a 6'6 ML All Star ros and it throw pretty good. Distance isn't quite as good as I expected but it performs very well and as in any Abu Garcia prosuct appears to be well made."

"I actually bought this reel as a Christmas present, I would have to say that I was more surprised than the recipient when he opened his present and his brand new reel had rust on it! That's right, directly out of the package and straight from Basspro. Think twice before ordering online, you might be the one that gets the surprise."

"At the recommendation of a friend and fishing guide, I purchased two of the Abumatic 276Ui Underspin Reels to use on B'nM' Crappie Wizard rods.
I was a bit leery after reading all of the negative reviews on the various brands of underspin reels, but since the Abumatic was rated the best, that's what I purchased. I did not regret my purchase.
My wife and I put them to the test on Lake Sam Rayburn for 3 days and they both performed flawlessly. We caught large Crappie, Catfish ranging from 2-5 lbs., Kentucky Bass, and one Largemouth Bass that went over 7 lbs.; and the reel handled them all with little effort, and zero issues with the drag system.
I plan to purchase more of these reels to put on additional B'nM' Crappie rods of various lengths, so I don't have to change out the reels; when going to a different rod.
Suggest using Stren Clear Blue line on these reels in 6-8 lb. test (to minimize line memory), for many, many hours of maintenance free fishing enjoyment.
B'nM' rods and the Abumatic underspin make the perfect combination for Crappie fishing.
My wife and I highly recommend this reel as the best underspin on the market today."

"This reel's drag is horrible it does not grip the line at all. I almost had a huge catfish get away because the drag failed. Also the reel it's self is cheaply built and you can feel the gears in the reel.
DO NOT GET THIS REEL!! I would recomend any other Zebco reel."

"took this out for the first time and found the drag could not be set low enough. I tried everything but after loosing two fish it wasn't worth the added effort. I am returning it.
too bad becuase its a nice concept, casts great with light tackle but not a very good package.
This is the second reel from this brand that has been a problem. I will not be purchasing another."

"I ordinarily use an open face reel but I purchased the Abumatic 276Ui underspin reel because,, due to the sudden onset of RA, my thumb on my right hand is so misshaped and painful I can no longer control the cast. This reel is great , it does not hurt my hand for I really don't use the parts of my hand that are painful . It casts and reels as smooth as butter . Thank you Bass Pro Shop for letting me get part of my life back."

"I purchased this Abu-Garcia underspin reel to replace a standard spinning reel. I got a little tired of always having to open the bail before each cast. I already have a spin-cast that I like with the thumb triger, and already having a shakespear spinning rod that I like, I purchased this reel to go with it.
Now for a short review of ths underspin reel:
First of all, it is much easier and quicker to use. Second, it seems to be made pretty well.
The only real complaint that I have with it (so far), is the feeling I get when reeling it in. You can feel the gears when reeling and it doesn't come with any instructions on how to lubricate it. It is possible that it only needs a little grease or possibly a few more bearings, I'm not sure.
I would normally take it back to the store and try another one in case I got a bad one. I decided to give it some more time, since I ordered it on-line and don't want to spend the money to send it back!

"Purchased this reel after reading other reviews and am now glad I did! Very easy to use and set-up and will cast soft plastics and smaller lures a mile! I have it paired with a 6ft. Abu Conolon Premier spinning rod and this combination is a killer! I also like that it came pre-spooled with Trilene XL and would recommend highly!"
