Berkley® FireLine® Braid Fishing Line

Berkley® FireLine® Braid Fishing Line

Designed for flawless performance on casting reels, FireLine Braid offers all the original FireLine characteristics that anglers love: smooth feel, easy casting, durable and ultra sensitive. The revolutionary construction of FireLine Braid makes it round, smooth, easy-to-cast, ultra-sensitive and strong, properties that keep the line from digging into the spool. Whether it's pitching bushes, trolling ledges or casting jigs, there are not much many applications where FireLine Braid doesn’t excel.

"fire line is designed for the next generation of
anglers, and if your looking for line that will not stretch, or that is 3 times smaller than mono when it comes to test, fire line wins hands down!

"i've used them all and this braid has surpassed all the others.it's the smoothest roundest braid yet.no digging in on baitcasters and less wind knots than any other braid.powerpro and suffix are both outdated as of this year!!!"

Suprisingly good, May 30, 2009

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Style/Design, Value for money, less lost lures!

"I currently have this line, in 40lb., with a Shimano Conquest100/GLX 844 combo, which I use mainly for jigs, and heavier t/c-rigs.

Unlike regular Fireline, this version is what you would classify as a typical braid. However, unlike most braids, this uses 8 carriers (6 for the lowest lb. test). This results in a line that is much more round, and smooth than most of the other braids sold domestically. This difference is immediately noticeable when you make your first cast. Since it is much smoother, line noise and the "rough" feel of typical braids is all but gone. It is almost like using mono. Of course, this line is much more strong, and limp than mono.

It also bears mentioning that the line seems to be treated in some manner to make it a little more manageable. Many braids feel like you are using thread, which can be a little disconcerting when you are trying to tie a knot on a windy day. This stays put a little better. However, for those who like a stiffer line on spinning gear, it is still probably a little too limp.

In the water, it performs as any other high-quality braid. The low diameter allows it to cut through the water, and weeds, much more easily. It also allows spooling more line on a shallow-spooled baitcaster without sacrificing strength. Just as with other polyethelene braids, it is extremely sensitive. The color fades a little, but not to a great degree, and certainly less than most other braids. Faded, or not, it maintains low-visibility in, especially in green-tinted waters.

So far, this braid is right up there as one of my favorites, next to Daiwa Samurai Braid, and the Japanese imports - but at a lower price.

Concerning water retention - I haven't really found it to hold any more water than any other braid. I say hold, because the line doesn't really absorb water. Since it is a braid, though, it will wick water. I don't really have a problem with this - otherwise, I wouldn't be fishing.

Fishing Fantastic Fireline!, May 13, 2009
By Anonymous from Stoney Creek, ON

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well

"I purchased Berkley's Fireline Braid back in the peak of this past winter with the intent of spooling up my baitcaster in prep for this summer's season of bass fishing. Instead, I spooled up the spinning reel on my 11ft. 6in steelhead/salmon rod and with the use of a flourocarbon leader prepared to do some rainbow fishing up in the Bruce Peninsula along the Sauble River. Every cast was smooth and effortless. The best aspect of using the line was its noticeable sensitivity to a hit and its ability to set the hook quickly because of its no stretch characteristic. I am very glad to have tried it for rainbow and spring chinook fishing and am eager to spool up the baitcaster now for the up coming season of bass fishing. I would recommend the line to everyone.

"This is a premium fishing line that is strong for its diameter. It does carry a lot of water on retrieve. I didn't believe the comment about running you bilge pump when you fish this line, but it is true."
