Could have been better, October 7, 2009
By Stosh from Florida Keys

Advantages: Style/Design
Disadvantages: Performance

"Reel came with the line wound backwards. I had to unwind the line all the way out and reel it back in. As a result, the "memory" in the line caused "birds nests" which made casting difficult at best. The line will have to be replaced before I will use it again. Too bad, otherwise I was quite satisfied with the rig."

"The combo is a good value. Looked at similar priced rods elsewhere and could not match the value. Tried saltwater for the first time and I am hooked (pun intended), this combo was what i needed."

"I bought this combo as an inexpensive setup for shore casting near my house. As luck would have it, I tied into a sturgeon while boat fishing on the Carquinez Strait. I had originally thought that this was a pretty stout-looking rig, but this sturgeon made me think differently. After about an hour fight and six or seven tries, my mates weren't able to get the fish into the boat and the fish broke off. This fish was just over the slot limit for Bay and Delta sturgeon, going about six feet and probably about seventy to eighty pounds. The rod was definitely up to the task of a near eighty pound fish, as it was able to easily withstand the five to six really good runs the fish went on. The reel, however, wasn't nearly as smooth as I had hoped, requiring a bit more effort than I would have expected. I do think that this setup is a very good value for the money and anyone thinking about purchasing should not hesitate. It has more than enough backbone to handle just about anything on the low side of one hundred pounds (you might want to replace the line that's included, as I think it's only twenty pound test)."

Impressive for the price..., September 7, 2008
By RobBAYCA from San Jose, CA

"I originally purchased this combo several months ago as a backup. When I received it, I was impressed with not only the rod, but the reel as well. The rod is durable and the reel is smooth - the reel was actually larger than I expected.

Now, I use this combo more that my other setups. It's very versatile - I use it for saltwater fishing off the piers, in the boat and in fresh water for stripers and catfish. Honestly, for the price it cant be beat. I actually just picked up another today.
