Customer Reviews for Sage Sage® 3800CF Series Fly Reels

Sage Sage® 3800CF Series Fly Reels

The Sage 3800CF Series Fly Reels offer the dependable, premium performance that’s so hard to find in this price range. The 3800CF Series Fly Reels are designed with Sage’s acclaimed “floating tripod” sealed graphite drag unit, one-revolution adjustment knob for accurate, repeatable drag settings and a curved, concave spool hub design. The 3800CF Series Fly Reels incorporate a full frame line-guard that provides an added level of line protection and is great for use with small-diameter running lines and shooting heads. Sage’s advanced carbon fiber spool technology reduces the 3800CF Series Fly Reel’s weight while increasing durability, and the aluminum handle and accent trim give the reels a distinctive “Sage look”.

Sage 3850CF

Advantages: Ease of use, Style/Design, Performs well, Value for money, Quality, nice drag system & knob
Disadvantages: leader gets inbetween spool & case
"I looked at Lamson & Sage, bought this one because the dealer where I bought the rod (St Croix Legend Ultra 9'-6 wt) didn't carry Lamsons, and this one is cheaper than the Litespeed I was considering. The 3850 is light, I like the concaved spool design, but wish it had a ventilated spool like the Litespeed.
I didn't give this reel as 5 because contrary to Sage advertising, my leader gets 'out' of the spool and wraps around the reel internals (when no fly attached and not strung through the rod guides). It did this 3 to 5 times before I took it fishing for the first time.
If I were to buy another Sage, it would be a 4250 or 4560CF."
