"I own this rod, but not the HC reel, though I paid the same price for just the rod. I have it paired with an Orvis Battenkill BBSIII reel, and the rod is great. It was my first fly fishing setup, and even though I now have a very nice Orvis Rod, with Ross reel, I still love and use this setup. It might be inexpensive, but does not feel like it. Very good casting, great action, and even though it may not be as pretty as the more high end rods, it gets the job done well. I would not hesitate for a second to recommend the TFO rod to any angler, getting the reel is just gravy. With this deal, I am going to order another, in a #3 wt. for a lighter rig, since I have a #5 and #6 already."

Outstanding Fly Setup,June 16, 2009

"Setup: 9' - 8wt.
For the money and warranty, this has been a great purchase. I've used it in ponds - casting is smooth, and even for a beginner such as myself, it isn't difficult to get used to. I've caught nice bluegills (which I've purposedly aimed for). However, once the gills stops biting, I'll start going for bass. I also plan on using it for some saltwater trips.
The quality is outstanding. It's lightweight - I could use it for hours and not get tired at all! Even an old-timer fly fisher I met was impressed with the quality of this product.
I plan on getting my wife the same outfit but lighter setup: 7' - 5wt

"I received this in the mail after waiting a few extra weeks due to being on back order. The rod and reel is great. The rod has great action. Tested in my back yard and it casts perfectly. Would gladly recommend this product to a friend. Plus I paid the same as the rod alone but received a nice reel too."
