Berkley® PowerBait® Hollow Belly™ Swimbaits

Berkley® PowerBait® Hollow Belly™ Swimbaits

When conditions call for a super swimbait, do as Berkley's top pros do and fish the Berkley® PowerBait® Hollow Belly™ Swimbait. Unlike other swimbaits, the PowerBait Hollow Belly is hollow from head to tail which causes the bait to collapse around the hook when bit for a solid hook set. Its oversized paddle tail produces an unbeatable, natural swimming action while the realistic eyes, lifelike colors and soft texture allow the Hollow Belly to truly mimic a live baitfish. Plus, the Hollow Belly is loaded up with PowerBait fish-attractant scent which truly provides a significant advantage. The PowerBait Hollow Belly Swimbait come with three baits, a wide gap hook, a treble hook, a bullet weight, a swivel, plastic tubing, and a split ring.

Good Swimbait But Def Not The Best, September 6, 2009

"This swimbait is ok and will catch some fish but compared to Strike King's Shadalicious and Yum's Money Minnow it is def third best. I throw a lot of soft swimbaits and in my opinion this would be the last of the three, that i mentioned anyway, that I would tie on. It has good action but the body is a little bit skinnier than the other two swimbaits so it is a little harder to rig correctly when using any swimbait hook larger than a 3/0 (which is pretty much all of the time). All n all a decent bait but try the Shadalicious and you'll def see what I'm talking about."

The best swimbait I've used., August 24, 2009
By goodrat79 from upper peninsula, michigan

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Style/Design
Disadvantages: Durability, price

"I usually prefer houdini shad or flukes but just had to try them. They are very realistic in the water. and hooksetting is super easy. However they do tear quickly and you only get 3 in a pack. Definately not a bait for every time out."

Not Perfect But Not Bad, August 11, 2009
By Nextlevelbassin from Canadian Shield Central ON

Disadvantages: expensive

"I took my first step on the swimbait bandwagon with the Berkley Hollow Belly Swimbait. I figured it was relatively cheap compared to the more pricey hard plastic ones and would be less painful if it did not preform.
First off, you defiantly need to slice the belly of this bait up the middle to allow for better hook sets. Next is to get some crazy glue as these baits tear easily and are not that cheap. Lastly a good dose of patience. This lure is at its best when retrieved slowly and the number of followers it brings behind it make it a good idea to have a throw back bait ready at all times. I find that it does not run perfect all the time and requires some fiddling. This bait, although flawed catches fish and has prompted be to buy the Spro BBZ 1 4" Shad. The swimbait bandwagon rolls on.

Great Swim Bait. (modified), June 30, 2009
By Croc from Lusby, Md

Advantages: Performs well, Quality, Value for money

"These swimbaits catch large bass. When I first started using them I could not keep fish on. I watched the the Hank Parker outdoor show. He slits the belly so the bait does not wad upon the hook. This makes a tremendous difference, on your hook ups. If I had not seen the show. I was ready to give up on the bait. Now I bring in alot more bass doing this modification to it. Great swimbait! Try them. Hope berkley Listens to Hank also."

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Style/Design

"I had this sitting in the package since I bought it 5 months ago, and I thought it was one of those sporadic purchases I'd regret or find no application for. A couple days ago I decided while looking through my plethora of soft baits and swim baits waiting to be tested out in my pond that it was time to give it a shot. I rigged up one and dropped it in my tackle box expecting to test it out and see how it swam, with little to no expectations.
I tied it on to my baitcaster, launched it out twice as far as I've ever cast anything and started swimming it back. About half way through my retrieve I got impatient and so I started burning it back as fast as I could to get it off my line and give up on it. Sure enough, as it got to within 10 feet of me I saw the shadow, then BAM!!!!, AN 8 POUND LARGE MOUTH SMASHED IT LIKE IT HADN'T EATEN IN YEARS!!

Amazing lure, I couldn't have asked for any better a first impression!!!
These are pictures of the catch

Pretty good swimbait, June 10, 2009
By AsianSensation from Tampa, FL

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Style/Design

"I've only used this bait a couple of times and it has yielded decent results. After watching an episode of Hank Parker, I learned that cutting the stomach of the bait allows the hook to move through the bait easier, leading to better hook sets. I rig it with the weighted hook and then place the treble hook directly on the weighted hook, stoppering it with a rubber band. The large paddle tail gives the lure good action and lots of vibrations. Only gave it 4 stars cause I haven't used it much."

Awesome bait !, May 9, 2009
By aperson from canada

Advantages: Performs well
Disadvantages: Durability

""These swimbaits have a great scent and action. they will catch u fish!! Right when I casted it into the water the bass were all over it. I couldn't throw it fast enough!! Ill give it 4 stars because I rigged it with a spring twist weighted swimbait hook, and the shell of the bait folder over itself from the head back from heavy bass action :( But if you use it with just a regular weedless weighted hook u should be fine."

Her first large bass in just a few casts.

"I have used a ton of berkley baits and this one is as good as the rest of them. One of the best ways to rig it and it takes some practice to get it right is sideways on the jig head or hook. You have to keep the shank close to the side of the bait leaving the hook totally exposed. I know it can cause hangups in heavy cover but if you don't lose takle you're not really fishing. It mimics a dying fish and the fish just slam it. I taught my girlfriend how to use and see the results for yourself."

easy to rig, March 3, 2009
By Riverking from Manteca Ca.

"I wrote a review some time ago on the Yum Fat Money Minnow and I really liked the action of the bait but failed to catch fish on it . I tried it several more times and did catch a few bass . Rigging the Yum bait was not that easy , the hook has to be right on or the bait will spin . I saw the Hank Parker show where he showed how to rig the Berkley Power Minnow . The first thing he did was cut a slot in the belly of the minnow and simply rigged it weedless . When a fish strikes it gets a good hook set because of the slot in the belly . I rigged this bait 3 ways . 1. weedless with no weight . 2 . weedless on a weighted hook . 3 . weedless on a weighted hook with the addition of a treble hook for use in open water . On several trips I caught fish on all 3 methods . The Yum bait has good action but the hollow Power Minnow is so much easier to rig ."

Very good swimbait, May 20, 2008
By HawgsonSwimbaits from California

"This is very good hollow-belly swimbait. It has realistic action and is pretty consistent on retrieve. It is NOT as good as the Basstrix version, but then again, which follow-up version to this type of bait is? This bait competes very well with the Yum money minnow version.....I think it has similar action (Berkley might be slightly more consistent on each retrieve, but the Yum has more action when rigged just right)...I think Yum has slightly better durability.....but I do think the Berkley version has a more reaslistic design and color scheme (though YUM offers more color options and more size options). While Berkley and the YUM versions are not as good as the Basstrix original.....they are nice nice option (more readiliy available and cheaper, plus the Bekley baits come with hooks).....and I think both are FAR superior to the versions Bass Pro carries put out by Lucky E Strike and Strike King...the YUM and Berkley versions, in my opinion, have much better action and do not have such a strong chemical scent when you first open them compared to those models. The Berkley version comapres favorably with the versions also put out by Reaction Strike, Poor Boys, and Kamakazee (I think Berkley is better than all but maybe the Poor Boys version). I will definitely keep a few with me every time I go out fishing. I rig them similar to a fluke....I prefer a Falcon Bait-Jerk Superline 5/0 hook with a 1/4 ounce weight....you can get away with the 4/0 vertical drop shot hook that Bass Pro carries....on biger baits, you may want to go to a 6/0 hook. You can also buy regular EWG hooks and pinch on weights, but the jagged edges usually tear up the baits pretty quickly. Bass Pro also sells swimbait hooks with a "screw-lock" for the nose of the baits, but they last for about one fish unless you super glue the "screw lock" into the nose of the bait. Without the glue, the bait is typically ruined after one fish from my experience. I hope this helps....good luck on the water!"
