"After camping with this tent on 2 separate occasions we were extremely happy with our home away from home. It is VERY spacious and will fit practically anything you need in it. We were initially thrown off thinking the separating wall would be sewn into the tent but was actually just a wall that you hang up yourself if you choose. This feature actually made it feel more open and created more usable space. The fly proved to be very effective while a cold front came through with lots of rain and wind. Fortunately we experienced no leaking whatsoever. However are biggest problem with the tent is condensation. The tent is so large it took us many days of bringing it inside and out to finally dry out. For our second trip we were staying on the beach and it was almost raining in our tent for the first morning from the amount of condensation. The day before we left we took the fly off before it got dark which really helped with the drying out process. It can be a little difficult getting in and out of the tent with the fly completely closed but it is not unmanageable by any means. All in all we are extremely happy with this tent and feel that our extensive research paid off."

Buy this tent!, August 9, 2008
By roxy08 from Missouri

"Like another reviewer, my husband and I bought this tent because the Columbia Cougar Flats was out of stock at our local Bass Pro. We had not had the chance to look at reviews for this tent, but we were getting down to the wire because we were leaving on our vacation in a couple of days. We haven't camped in a tent for a long time, but we knew we wanted a tent that would keep us dry and this tent performed perfectly! Our second night in camp we had a huge thunderstorm with many downed limbs and power outages all around and even though we didn't stake our rainfly, the tent held fast and strong. We did have a small amount of water in the tent, but it was our fault.
Because of lightning strikes all around, we decided to exit the tent in favor of the vehicles. When we left the tent we zipped the rainfly shut, but we neglected to zip the bottom of the interior door, so rain found it's way in. Later that night we left the tent again for the same reason and this time we zipped the tent completely, inside and out, and not a drop of water made it's way in even though the storm was furious. When erected correctly, this tent is DRY!

Some reviewers complained about the mismatch of the rainfly versus the tent door. I'm guessing they mean that the door zippers on the tent are like an inverted "T" and the rainfly door is a huge "D" shape. This may bother some, but we had not problem with it. We also didn't mind that to "open" the windows on the front, you have to go outside and unzip the fly. We're convinced that the reason the tent is so dry is because of the design of the fly. The zippers were sturdy and durable with large rubberized pulls making it easy to use.

Setup the first time took only 20-25 minutes in extreme temperatures and humidity. With modest effort, the tent fit easily into the bag without needing to deploy the expandable feature.

Our only concern is for the long-term durability of the floor. It is the same material as the walls, so it's thin compared to tents with tarp-like floors. We did put down a tarp under the tent and we could see water that collected between the tarp and the floor, but it never seeped through, so the floor is waterproof. Also, the thin floor creates less bulk and makes the tent lighter to pack.

Other notes of interest -- the no-see-um screens kept us bug free; there was great air flow and ventilation and the interior height was great for us all. My husband is 6' and stood up easily. It is advertized for 8 people, but our experience is that you could comfortably sleep 6 if you don't have too much "stuff" to store inside. We slept in the back. My husband had an oversized cot; I had a twin inflatable and our 4 year old had his own small inflatable. This left the entire front half for our gear and we had plenty of room for two oversized, folding chairs as well.

Overall this is a great tent and we recommend it to anyone.

Spacious Tent, July 21, 2008
By PACamper from Central, PA

"We purchased this tent after looking at many reviews. The tent held up well during the days we spent at the campground. We had two queen size air mattresses and two duffle bags, a laundry basket (for towels) and a small suitcase in the tent and still had plenty of room for more. The only thing that was not well thought of was the tent fly not matching the doors. It was very difficult to get in and out of during the night without the help of two people. I am going to see if Columbia has redesigned the fly to match. If they have, I will see if they will exchange it for the new design. As for rain, I cannot say if it holds up well or not. We had dry weather the week we were there. This is why I am only giving it a 3 star rating."

One Big Tent!, July 7, 2008
By Teddies from Kitchener, ON

"As our local Bass Pro did not have the Cougar Flats we opted for this tent instead. The tent was a pleasant surprise as far as setup was concerned. Having never attempted to setup the tent before, my wife and I managed to do so in approximately 15 minutes with NO profanity! So far so good. Unfortunately, our camping experience included a significant amount of rain. Being impatient I failed to properly seal the seams prior to our trip so we did experience some very minor leakage. However, considering the volume of rain we dealt with I certainly can't complain. All-in-all a great family tent for fair weather campers that value ease of use, size, & comfort over the need to stay 100% dry during a monsoon..."

Massize easy to set up tent, June 14, 2008
By familycamper from Florida

"We originally were looking at the Columbia Bugaboo II tent but decided to purchase the Conrad with a lot of extra room and only a couple of dollars more. I also was looking for a full coverage rainfly too.
The tent was easy to set up and take down. It can be done with one person but this was family camping and my wife shared the duties by holding the end of the pole in the pin while I popped up the tent from the opposite end. We appreciated the mesh windows during the heat of summer. There was lots of cross ventilation in the tent that made it comfortable to sleep. We also liked the divider that allowed us to put our 9 month old to sleep while we sat in our chairs in the screened front section with a lantern. My wife and I could stand up and walk around the tent with near vertical walls for a dome style tent. The only cumbersome part of the tent was entering through the rainfly door and the tent door. They don't really line up and it's hard to get in and out but it does make it rain proof. Very good tent for the money.

Mediocre at best, April 15, 2008
By kelleo from South Florida

"Nothing is more irritating than asking a sales person specific questions and getting an answer you want to hear, but when you get the product home it doesn't match the description. The floor has the gobedry system, which is essentially a treated nylon floor not the tarp like washtub bottom. The tent is basically a screen tent with a rainfly. The only way to open and close the "windows" is on the rain fly, since the tent is just screens (no the windows are not just rolled back in the picture). Not exactly friendly when it starts raining in the middle of the night and whoever gets the short straw is the one to go outside and close up the windows on the rainfly. Another big draw back is to have any privacy from the front door you must close the rainfly which stakes down right in the middle of the tent opening and if you stake down the rainfly you can only open the fly half way and there is no convenient tie backs (unless the fly is opened fully then it can tie back). That being said, on the plus side the tent is very spacious without the divider in place. We fit a queen size air mattress, twin air mattress, a port-a-crib and 4 duffel bags. Since it is nothing more than a screen tent with a fly there was plenty of ventilation; We are in Florida so that is a bonus. The tent, poles and stakes fit into a large duffel bag which is surprisingly light weight and doesn't take up much cargo space. When we broke camp we had to hang the tent to dry since the bottom never dried off; we never had rain on this trip, so it was just condensation but at noon in the Florida sun you would think the tent floor might be dry. The verdict is still out for us, it makes a nice summer tent but the fly design is extremely disappointing. Also this tent requires a two man assembly. The way the shock cord system is set up the cords would absolutely snap if one person tried to raise it. I have set up many tents and the directions were a bit lacking, but a little patience and set up at home before the trip paid off."
